Are carbon wrapped barrels really worth the extra $$ ?

I mean these look cool I don't care who you are. Definitely not traditional.

Take the time to read the whole post before you.....
"Great for hunting" Just what does that mean?..Really..
I would like to see your pro backcountry hunters shoot against a good benchrest team.

I'd like to see those benchrest guys skin and pack out an elk...

Look at where I'm from, half they guys I have shot a little BR with are also excellent ultra light long range hunters as well.
One of the last ultra light rigs I built will shoot right with my 17 lb Dasher and out shoot it in the wind so.... Maybe I don't need links to the pros in another shooting sports...

Almost every one of our 1000 yard BR shooters started with LR hunting rifles. If a guy REALLY wants to learn how to get the most from his lr hunting rifle he should get to know some BR guys... Where do you think all this long range accuracy was developed? What packing out an elk has to do with rifle accuracy Im not sure though.

Started with LR hunting rifles perhaps...but aren't LR HUNTERS...I have no desire to get to know any BR guys, thanks anyway.

You would not fit in anyway, the group of BR guys I've shot with in MT are not a--holes and just a great group of guys!! Just hanging out up there shooting the few chances I get sure has added a lot to my LR hunting and cold bore shooting!!

Man if you are going to say you wouldn't want to learn some things from BR guys i don'y know what else to say. I recently spent a 3 day weekend in MT with the BR crowd and everyone there was beyond helpful. Who do you think brought about the ladder for load development? Why is suddenly the 6 Dasher the top winning PRS rifle? Almost all the BR guys in MT have hunting rifles, and they helped me tune both mine to shoot 3" at 1k on PAPER. They laughed at half the garbage i asked about for load development that i have read online. They try things, not read about them. My 24" proof carbon 7SAUM did shoot 3" at 1k after tuning. Almost all the guys mentioned that they would rather have a steel barrel than a carbon. I have both for my SAUM and can change when wanted. Heavy steel sendero fluted 28" or 24" carbon proof. Looks, Larger break, are about the only real benefits. Keep in mind that once you get your stock inletted for a proof, you will need to always shoot one or a equal steel size barrel. Unless your ok with it looking funny with a #4 or #5.

How'd you fit in then?

First off..Dressing and packing is what the Guide gets paid for! It's his job!
I'll sit and watch..
Secondly almost all innovations in firearms come from competition!
Company's field teams to test and showcase new ideas...Then sell it to the Military
and then everyone "Has" to have one!

Someone correct me if I am wrong. It is my understanding that few carbon barrels are used in bench rest since they can not be set back and rechambered.

You "know" these guys are not lr hunters but in the same sentence say you dont know them. Gotta love the internet! Carry on.

Um it's a pretty well known fact if you'd pay attention to your surroundings and read what is written.

Besides, how many 6mm Dashers are you chambering for hunting rifles? Carry on
