.300 Norma or .300 RUM (can’t decide!!!) What

I agree. The 30 nosler or 30-28 nosler is an awesome round. I just got a 30-28 reamer in a few weeks ago and so far its an absolute tack driver. I bought that reamer so guys that Ive built 28 noslers for can get a 30 cal magnum and just neck their brass up once their 28 nosler barrels are shot out. The only group I shot at 400 since doing the ladder test had .1" vertical and was 1.0" wide. For guys that already have a standard mag bf its a great option. It tops out where the norma improved starts off. For guys starting from scratch the norma improved is the way to go in my opinion. Buy 100 pieces of brass and itll last several barrels. The whole die fiasco I had with that company that won't be named really sucked. Im glad Hornady is making me a bunch that work great and are reasonably priced. Theyre gonna be $220 for a full length bushing die and Micrometer adjustable seater. Very reasonable considering the quality.

I have a 4"+ throated 338 edge and a 300 Norma Improved. When I get a rebarrel on my 300 NMI, I'm going to do it the right way and just form 100 pieces to break the barrel in. Single shots are awesome actions. A coned bolt single shot that is timed is the smoothest action you'll ever come across. I had my 300 NMI built off a Bat HR, which I think is the nicest action I have owned as a repeater. The case capacity between the two are very similar when you factor in a correctly throated 300 NMI and a 300 rum as a repeater. I need to verify a couple more groups, but looks like with Retumbo and 230 Bergers I'll end up at 3040 for accuracy.

looks like both cases in standard form shoot the 230's at around the same velocity unless you go the improved version. I suppose with the norma you have the advantage of going .338 if you ever wish to do so.

I already have x2 28 noslers and could potentially build the 28/30 nosler which looks interesting, however reamers and dies would be near on impossible to get here in oz...

30-28 dies are easy. 28 Nosler full length bushing die with the neck opened up so you can use 30 cal bushings and a standard 30 nosler seating die or better yet a reamed wilson seating die. I have had a few 30 and 30-28 noslers myself, my 30-28 was probably the most consistently accurate hunting rifle I owned at 1k.

Just run a 30 cal expander mandrel through a 28 case, H1000, 215s, 3100 fps in 26". 3080-3100 is the accuracy window in the ones I have built. Pressure is about 50 fps higher. Retumbo I have hit low 3200s. But H1000 shot better. Its just a 30 nosler with .051" longer case body.

I built several rum ,all shot very good without a lot of fooling around finding a good load
also I built a Warbird shot 1/2 -In out the big boomer first time out ,190 grain bullet
Reloader 25 , 96 gr, Talked to John Laz he he suggested 12 twist, 3260 FBS a real ,
But it was areal handful on the bench , Made a 5 In long brake ,

For the Norma guys, are you predominantly using magazines or floorplates?

Iv settled on a standard Norma on a defiance Action. What are your pet loads for 230gr Bullets? Are you getting highest velocities with H1000?

In the 338 Norma, I put one together with a Stiller CIP length DBM, and I'm putting together a light weight one with an aluminum BDL bottom metal. It may only hold 2+1, hoping for 3+1, but I haven't had to shoot that many times at anything in years. I would base my decision on if I wanted a lighter or heavier rifle. The one with the dbm is a 11.8 lb rifle scoped and loaded. The bdl is going to end up 8.5-9.0 lbs depending on what scope I go with.

Haven't shot the 300 norma, but in the 338 I got best velocity with Retumbo (didnt try N570) but ridiculous consistency with H1000, and only gave up roughly 50 fps or so. From 84-89 grains, one shot at each grain, all shots were touching in about a 1" ctc group that ranged over 180+ fps.
