Hey All,
I thought I'd flop this in the General Discussion forum as I believe it is not a political post in any way.
Given the latest CO school shooting, I thought I'd fairly ask, have you had a discussion with your son (or daughter) that the gun is not to solve the problem of the day, when your kid has a problem with a teacher or girlfriend or other? Some may say that whether the answer is yes or no, it is none of my business, and I completely agree in the sense that when I train a youngster in firearms, I always defer to the parent on all decisions. But here we are talking about law abiding citizens that have either disregarded this, what I call a simple responsibility, or the message did not hit home. Do folks think it is inappropriate or appropriate to voice an opinion when you think a basic gun responsibility is not met in any firearm situation? Are we just to accept this rate of incident, as normal? Just some questions, that's all. The magnitude and senselessness of the loss, make the questions fair and I'd like to hear your feedback.
regards, mo

I see no way to answer those questions, in a meaningful way. How can one understand what history, be it the child-gone-wrong or parent failure, drives this type of senseless action.

I have to call my son everytime it happens, just to be sure my only grandson is not a victim.

The day after this shooting, I see Colorado "lawmakers" have voted to decriminalize hallucinating mushrooms. Yeah, that'll help.

I've never been able to make sense of school shootings, worst thing imaginable Imo
But I think until we understand the motivation behind such behaviour we'll continue to struggle to prevent it sadly

Bad parenting, a me generation, not being held accountable for your actions, unable to control emotion, unable to take criticism, unable to recognize life isnt fair, recognizing that highschool is not actually that important, realizing early on that youre not that special, learning to cope with bullies (they never go away), stop throwing prescription drugs at every little negative emotion you have...the list goes on.

It can be summed up to recognizing life sucks, it can always be worse, and you need to toughen up to cope with it. A gun isnt the answer. Self awareness and self control is.

For all the negatives of the military, the one thing I learned quickly was that I was just a bullet in an already tuned gun. When that gun fired, there was a bullet ready to be loaded to take my place. AKA I wasnt that important.
Amen. That's a lesson most (adults included) have failed to learn. You arent that important. Even the president gets replaced every 8 years at most.

morning, our society today is much tougher than when
we went to school. the pier pressure in our day was
for money, clothes, rides and female friends. nothing
has changed except the addition of drugs. which thru
pier pressure r used to belong to the group. the belonging
to a group of people, makes the younger gen. get personnel
security from thinking everybody in the group is a friend.
my son was killed by a drunk driver, 3 weeks later
a good friend son shot himself because his girlfriend
broke up with the young man. 2 weeks after that a person
a know son was killed by a drunk driver. all 3 of these young
men were 20-28 years old. we can hold there hands
while the children grow up if possible, we can not guide
there lives. I think what could I have done to make a difference?
my son loved to hunt and fish. I have boats, custom rifles,
lots of fishing gear, clothes, vehicle, money, brown belt
3rd stage brown in kenpo karate. my graduated from HS
his junior year. wanted to join the marines or the army.
today we as parents r driven to b successful in everything
we do, failure is not an option. if u have
children god bless u. pray for the children.
some persons will not like this posting. so b it!

Good post
I think social media has ramped up peer pressure beyond anything we ever experienced

Thanks for all the thoughts and stories. I was about to delete this post as I knew it would make some folks squirm but then again, I thought, if somebody reads this and shares one thing, that matters to even one person, it is worth it. I've already read a few things here that make me pause and think... something I have realized is missing in many young folk's lives today. peace and strength, y'all.

Yeah social media is pretty toxic. You are only catching a tiny glimpse of someone's life. In that photo, at that exact time, their life is perfect. It doesn't tell the whole story. But people can not differentiate that moment from that persons life. They assume that person has it better than they do based off of one tiny piece of evidence. Also, you can never escape it. The school bully was only the bully at school. But now with social media you can't escape it. I don't have any social media, minus the forums, but this is different. For the most part it's knowledge exchange, and 99% of the guys are nice/supportive.

@just country sorry for your loss. I try really hard to be polite to everyone I meet since you never know their back story. At the company I work at I was talking with some of my employees, and I've met five so far who have lost their children. I've decided that if they are ever having a bad day and take it out on me then that's 100% fine. As their boss why make their lives anymore difficult?

morning, thank all. this is not meant to b a sad story. we as parents
need to watch, and listen to our children and their friends. we'll b
surprised as to what we can avoid and learn. signals r there. like
watching a sunrise in ur deer stand. we watch learn and listen.
