Yes Nosler data is what I call optimistic. so it lines up better with our drive band style bullet that will show less pressure for same weight lead core bullets. Look for powders that are low to mid 90% load density.

I consider the 300 rum in the same category as the 30-06. Both are easy to load for. Fill em with powder and seat a bullet. They seem to shoot everything you feed them.

I wish they made a 190 or 200 gr. Hammer . I'm going to try some 200 gr. Barnes LRX when I find some. Just got some Barnes 190 LRX and Lehigh copper 175 gr. They are turned like Hammers. The heaviest they have though. The 175 LRX didn't shoot as good as the 180 TTSX.

The 196 is marginally longer than the 181, and the 181 has a marginally higher BC. I would go with the 181 to start with. With a higher BC and a potential to drive them faster, sounds like a win-win. I know I load the 166 in my 30-06 and a buddy's .300WSM, they have great terminal performance and penetration is not a problem on deer and elk.

I ran ladders for the Hammer 181 Hunter and Barnes 180 TSX in my Rem 700 in 300 WM, both shot well with groups generally between 1/4 and 1/2 "; on average though, the Hammers were a bit more accurate...and I'm betting on the Hammer for optimal terminal performance on elk this fall. For some reason though, I haven't gotten more than 2850 FPS out of my rifle. I have worked up to 74.7 gr. H4831sc and 78 gr. H1000 with similar results and no signs of excessive pressure. Hodgdon Load data shows 73 gr. H4831 = 2966fps and 81 gr. H1000 = 3042 FPS. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Keep going up in powder, your rifle is different than their test rifle and the Hammers don't have the same bearing surface.

Yes...that's my plan...FPS is secondary to accuracy, of course, so we'll see what happens..

We have been getting 3150 fps from 26" barreled 300wm's. Imr7828 has been good. Rl23 or rl26 could be good.

Yes, I remember you telling me about IMR 7828, however, I want to avoid temp sensitive powder like 7828. If my next tests with H4831 and H 1000 don't kick things up to at least 2900 + then I will give RL 23 a try since it's temperature stability is supposed to be a bit better than RL 26 (probably a better fit for a RUM). Remember, we're talking about a Win Mag not a RUM.

The Barnes 180 TTX and TTSX have shot so well out of my RUM. I'm excited to see how the 181 Hammer does Fri.. (loading rigjt now lol) also 190 Barnes LRX. Still no 200 LRX. Got my bullet shipment today. Berger 210 VLD. 200 and 212 ELDX. And 190 LRX. Soon there will be an XYZ... I didn't check it out but did someone say the 196 Hammer had a lower BC ?
