Type of rifle

500 is NOT elr so why bring it up.
this is the extreme long range forum...1000 or more.
a 308 win is designated as an 800 yd round by the mil...
My 338 NM is light, accurate and a great mountain gun.Ive ran a 338 for the last 35 years. And been knocking game in the dirt since then, was shooting elk that many years ago at 500+View attachment 129099

338 Lapua on a light hunting rifle??Why? Especially at $4-$5 a shot. It's an extreme long range round best suited for a heavy "tactical" type rifle. Everyone I know who ever bought one sold it. You can hunt with a heavier rifle but of course that depends on the type of hunt. Hunting in the back country where every pound counts is not for this caliber.

You're wrong.

This is a long range hunting forum and SP6x6 has an impressive LR Elk collection, who gives a sh_t if this is an ELR thread.
How many elk have you taken..

While agree with you on your sentiment, Len has rules for the ELR forum. I think he wants experts and guys pushing their limits to share their knowledge and keep the banter at a minimum.

Anyway, now that's out of the way, I would love to shoot ELR, but I haven't had the opportunity yet.

To answer your question. I have 4 high quality stocks. I have the manners T4A on a GAP 6.5CM, a manners TA on a Bighorn .308, a manners T3 on a Remington 700 PTG one piece bolt .338 Lapua Mag, and an HS precision on my 6.5CM GENII 5R.

I am super happy with my manners. The MCS TA is probably my favorite, since it's carbon fiber (lighter), has the adjustable cheek piece, and it's still comfortable and easy enough to plop down behind pretty quickly.

The T3 is nice but I have to use low scope rings since the cheek piece isn't adjustable. The T4A is AWESOME but it's not as easy to get into position quickly as it is with my TA. So I have 3 hunting style stocks and one tactical / comp stock. They have their pluses and minuses. The one down side is once you go manners, it's hard to go back to any other stock.

With chassises, I tried them out. I wasn't a fan. Reminded me too much of being behind an AR. If I want the feel of an AR, I'll just shoot one of my ARs. Lol

Post pics of your .375 when it's done. Sounds awesome!

And for the record you can take the .308 out pretty far. Guys shoot 1200 with the .308 which I would call ELR shooting. ;)

From reading 6x6's post I think he meant 35 years ago, before LR/ELR was cool and before laser range finders. So I think we can cut him a little slack for merely mentioning 500+.

And W.t.ewing- perhaps you should sit back and do a little (actually a lot) of reading.

Ya that was the idea, we used to say I shot one at 1/4 or 1/2 mile .Funny now that I look back at it.Ran into a grizzled old guy up high one day packing one off, shot with his 340 wby.Ya it was "bout 1/2 mile" those where the days.I personally know many on here, shoot archery for years with Steve,Hammer bullets,Known the OP of this thread for probably fifteen.Tom M,multiple world record 1000 bench, helped me dial my norma in.Wish the hunting was like it was.Good luck on project Benny,my wish list too.

Warning! This thread is more than 5 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
