Hello all, somewhat new to the forum. I am mostly a archery guy so just now learning about custom rifles so need some options.

Looking to switch my barrel on my Rem 700. It's the magpul version in 6.5 creedmoor. It's a threaded heavy barrel and looking to make it more for hunting. I would like to go the 6.5 PRC direction also. What barrels are recommended?

Thanks for any input you may have.

Also, not to terribly worried about price. Love the looks of carbons but if there is some companies that are just as good for cheaper, I'm also all for saving some money!

Are you going to have a smith mount it or go the Remage direction and DIY? Good barrels have become easy to come by. I own McGowen, Shilen, Krieger, and Bartlein and have gotten excellent accuracy from all of them. McGowen and Shilen sell Remage.

Definitely have a Smith do it. This is all new to me.

Just not to familiar with what quality barrels to use. It's going to only be used for hunting so I would like it a bit lighter but still shoot well. I've even though about a carbon, but from what I've read, there isn't much advatadva to the extra cost. Thanks for the reply.

Remage?

"Remage". Gives you the ability to install a pre-fit (chambered/threaded/contoured), custom barrel on a Remington 700 action and correctly set the headspace yourself by using go & no-go gauges and a barrel nut (essentially a lock nut) like the Savage (Rem "age").
Northland Shooters Supply also provides Remage barrels from Shilen and Criterion. I recently purchased a Shilen prefit for my Savage in 6mmBR and wow! Shoots in the .1-.2 range with Hornady 75gn Spire HP's, 108gn ELD-M's, 95gn Berger VLD's. Plus they have Go/No Go gauges cheaper than anyone else I'm aware of.

There are many excellent barrel makers out there. I recently put a Proof carbon barrel on a 6.5 Creedmoor rifle. Beyond that, I have had great luck with Bartlien and Brux. They are accurate and do not foul easily. I'm having a Bartlien installed now on a 30-06 for my son to use. The one thing to keep in mind with Brux is that their dimensions are slightly smaller than other makers on an equivalently-sized barrel. So, for example, a #4 contour Brux is slightly thinner than a #4 Bartlien. They are a fantastic barrel, though, and my Brux-barreled rifle may in fact me my most accurate.
