Hello,

Do any of you have recommendations for alternative tripod and ballhead setups that are less expensive than Soar RSS Series 2 or 3 tripod with ANVIL 30 ballhead but in your opinion are just as good?

I just can't bring myself to drop $1,500 on a tripod setup.

Take a look at the Feisol 3372 and the RRS leveling head. About $800 not as much range of motion with the leveling head but it is steadier

I just received a Leofoto LN-364C with a RRS BH-55 ball head. I also bought the RRS Vyce.

I've only played around with it using a Ruger PC carbine, trying to learn technique, but I like it.

I having nothing else to compare it to.

Total cost $850 for Anvil 30 Two Vets, No Name Tripod, with the same quality/design as the RRS and Soar tripods,
Here is picture of the above set-up. Weight 5#. ...
The Leofoto is a comparable tripod as well. A bit higher priced then the Two Vets.

PVA has the comp 40 which is a great heavy duty tripod 10ply carbon legs, believe weight is right under 5# accepts RRS anvil, I run this setup. Two vets has the no name tripod that looks a lot like the comp 40 with lighter 8ply legs, weighs 4#, also accepts RRS heads. Both these tripods were in the 400$ range with their introductory offers.

I bought this tripod:

And topped it with this ballhead:

So I'm all in at just under 5 bills to my door for both, then added a Hog Saddle on top. The tripod is a little heavier than others, but I didn't mind, as I wasn't going to schlep it to hell and back.

That looks so similar to the PVA and Two Vets tripod! I would be willing to bet that is who they bought it from and rebranded it and sold it for double their cost. I would go with that tripod instead, if i had to do it over again.

The all seem to come from the same Chinese OEM. Very similar except for very minor details, and of course labeling. The instruction sheets look all appear to be identical/China based. I will say that the quality/workmanship is excellent. The owner of Two Vets was at one if our PRS matches and suspended himself(probably weighed about 175#) from the tripod.....quite impressive....it didn't flex or budge! He sold about 20 of them he had in his van. One was mine and I'm very happy with it!
