Buying rifle: bergara b-14 hunter or what?

Hello all,

In the market for a new rifle. My current, 80s model Winchester M70 is great, but for my intentions is less than competitive. I am looking at the Bergara B14 Hunter in 7mm rem mag -- this rifle is used to hunt black bear, elk, deer and cougar. I'm wanting a rifle that is capable of accuracy out to 500-600 yards on game, however would love to tap some steel out to around 1000.

What are your thoughts on the Bergara? I'm liking the $699 price tag, so want to stay at that price or under. I am open to other recommendations and experiences with the Bergara!

Thank you.
Check out Howa....legacy sports international... amazing accuracy out of the box!

Bergara is representing best value for the money IMHO. I don't own one, but have had the opportunity to shoot / test several different models in different calibers and was more than positively surprised. Stunningly accurate out of the box and good quality all around for a very pleasant price tag. The only CON I see so far is that they only come right handed. Would love to buy one LH (!) with a classic stock made of wood in 300WM, but unfortunately ...

I'll add one more nod for the Bergara in that most calibers come in 24" barrel length as opposed to 22" for most Tikkas unless it's a magnum caliber. Also, Bergara's two vs. Tikka's three lug bolt design. Ergonomics play a role, go to a gun store who carries both and see how they feel in the hand as they will be very different. Bergara has more stock options as well. I would have no issue with either

Yes, heading this weekend to feel one in my hands before I make the final call. So far I'm not really hearing any downsides, which is a major plus...

Nice rifle. I'm debating the HMR Pro or the Premier Series Long Range right now to compliment the LRP I bought last year.
A lot of great high-end scopes out there but I've seen and read good about the Argo BTR Series from Athlon; FFP scope for <$400. The quality of value priced glass has improved dramatically over the last few years. Comes with a lifetime warranty.
