Im looking for one last quality rifle before I have another kid. This rifle will likely be the last one for a few years as my shooting has diminished already. I want the rifle to be a all around, target and hunting rifle. Weight doesn't bother me, I'm in good shape. I would like the ability to ring steel at 1k and hunt elk if needed. I've considered a 6.5cm, but I don't know if it's enough for elk. I don't reload, and will probably shoot 2-250 rounds a year out of the rifle. My budget is around 3-3500 for the rifle alone.

I currently have a Beanland built 308 and a AO built 223. So I'm looking for something with a little more...energy.

I like the 6.5 PRC of your choices,
it's an outstanding cartridge, no belt, cheap factory ammo, Bertram and ADG brass available,

Ive built two for myself and one for a 76 year old friend, his is on a Kimber Montana 8400 and a #2 Fluted 26" Benchmark 1-8 twist and it's crazy accurate, It's like he's 19 again !
It's a pleasure to shoot.

Build a custom 7mm RemMag with a 26" 1:8 twist barrel.

And start reloading...

Seriously, I shoot maybe half that much in a year and still I reload everything. For the high B.C stuff available for 7RM you're looking at over $2.50 a squeeze. $625 a year.

If you're absolutely not going to start rolling your own; I'll play devil's advocate and say go PRC. Ammo more geared toward what you want to do for less money. Get closer to the elk, problem solved.

7rm is plenty capable of doing what you want. I would check factory ammo available for your choices unless you plan to start reloading. 223,308,and 7rm (0r300wm) makes a great 3gun battery. Congratulations on the baby!

Out of the three it would be tough to pick between the 7mm WSM and the 7mm Rem Mag. but I'd choose the Rem Mag. Prior to narrowing my choices between the 280 AI and the 7mm Rem Mag I was trying to choose between the 300 Win Mag and the 7mm Rem Mag.

I think you would have an easier time finding reliable accurate 1k factory ammo with the 6.5 PRC. It would also take an elk "if needed". It's hard to have it all in one rifle. If I was gonna put 250 rounds a year thru it, I would get the PRC.
Absolutely

Barrelnut is right on.
If you go 7 Rm you won't see it's potential with factory ammo unless you're willing to drop big money.
A 6.5 PRC is perfect for your needs, I've shot my last two bulls at long range with 147 eldms from my 6.5 saum.
It'll put an elk down out to 700 yards easy.

I would go with the 7 mm rem their hard to beet but decide what ammo you might want to shoot and have your smith have a reamer built just for that ammo I built a 7mm for a guy he wanted to shoot hsm 7 mm with 168 burger it ended up shooting 1/4 -3/8 moa with factory ammo just have the smith make some dummy rounds to match factory and send to reamer maker to have reamer work best for that ammo good luck

I vote 7RM.

In my 700 rebuild I used a 9 twist Brux throated for the HSM 168gr Berger and it does its job!

The Hornady PH 162 ELDX is hard to beat in factory foddler.
