Help -- about to purchase my first set of reloading equipment!

Dillon makes very good equipment, for sure, and their guarantee is rock solid except on their electronic powder scale, which I guess they figure is an expendable product.

I actually have two Dillon 650s and love them for pistol work, where I am not trying different seating depths, different charge weights, different bullets. Once I have a known pistol load, I head for my Dillon. But for changing variables on a rifle load, I like the single-stage press.

Hello all,

I have decided to take the reloading route. I have never done it and have no equipment. As of now, I am only planning to reload for my 7mm rem mag.

I am looking at purchasing the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme reloading kit. I know that I need calipers and dies. Any die recommendations? Also, are the 2 dies in many of the sets all you need? Also, is an electronic powder scale a good idea over the manual scale? As in how hard is it to get accurate with the ".1, .2," etc. measurements?

Thank in advance. Excited to get into this.
A rabbit hole is an understatement. Take a look at accurateshooter.com and search for reloading for accuracy. It has some really good articles for squeezing out the enth degree of accuracy. More importantly it concentrates on the process. Then buy your equipment. If you choose not to get into the high accuracy aspect of reloading so be it. At least you will have an informed knowledge of what it takes if you do go down that rabbit home.

Great! Thank you so very much for your insight. I will be sure to do my part to ensure safety and proficiency on my reloading journey!

I've spent a LIFETIME, 50 + years in search of ACCURACY! I have NEVER FOUND what I consider to be the ULTIMATE ACCURACY! However, I am DEADLY ACCURATE further than most will believe, but all I'll say is "It sure has been FUN getting to where I am"! I truly believe "ULTIMATE ACCURACY PERFECTION" is unattainable! But I'll keep SEARCHING! Theosmithjr

Reloading, is it a hobby or a sickness. Very few people I know can leave a good load well enough alone . You will soon discover that reloading is a never ending book . Don't get me wrong , my reloading sickness is a passion and I will load until I can no longer shoot as most everyone that reloads . By no means am I trying to scare you away from loading , I find reloading is very rewarding .
Good luck on your venture

Both... It starts out as Jekyl, turns into Hyde, and then back into Jekyl over time, once all your large expenses and main important items have been purchased, and you realize that not every fancy new doodad is a necessity. You learn what is and isn't necessary, and what was your smart purchases, and what you wasted your money on...And believe me, there will be things you THOUGHT you needed, but ended up being a bad purchase.

I have the Rock Chucker Supreme Kit and I love it. As far as the scale goes, my scale that came in the kit is very accurate. If I put one tiny piece of powder on it I can see the beam move. It doesn't need to be any better than that.

My RCBS BEAM SCALE, I can weigh a piece of paper. Then write my name on it. Then RE- weigh it. I can the tell you EXACTLY what the lead or ink weighs. Enuff said. Theosmithjr

started out with RCBS Package and it certainly gets one off to a good start. Electronic scales etc will come later and you will appreciate them. you might want to include neck sizer die although you can do with standard. good luck
