Everyone is different, but in my opinion recoil pads help most with extended shooting sessions, removing the bruise per se.
Muzzle brakes keep the rifle on target and are the most effective recoil management tools. Muzzle blast can be managed, as can a person become accustomed to it

If you are headed to Africa with a heavy rifle for safari better check with your guide/outfitter. Many do not allow muzzle brakes.
Ok let's talk knots then the first time you tie a knot you are slow and have to think it through, look at directions, have someone show you and so on. You tie that knot 10 times you're getting it down doing ok at it may still need an example or it's been awhile. You tie that knot 50 times you probably don't need to see an example or look at a picture tie it quick. You tie the same knot 1000s of times you can do it in your sleep as fast as anyone. The ability to tie that one knot doesn't make you an expert on all knots and because practice makes perfect so they say. I say practice that knot by tying it lots.

Try using electronic hearing protection while hunting and it can help you hear better anyway, then you can use a brake. If you shoot anything much over 223 or 243 without hearing protection, one shot is all it takes to damage ytour hearing. I wear hearing protection all the time now, so having a brake is not a problem. (BRAKE not break BTW). I have a JP eliminator on my 300 win mag and I can see my shots. It is a miracle of engineering goes bake to the 1940's!! The JP 3 port looks nicer, more conventional and 90% as good. Give yourself a break. Give yourself a Brake. and wear hearing protection.!!!

I'd say "more like running a marathon"... Who's going to do better, the guy that ran one occasionally years ago, and now has to run one, or the guy that has run them for years and continues to run a couple a month?
There is a reason U.S. Army snipers have to re-qualify shooting every year and they practice regularly for it...
I developed a flinch when I was young from shooting big magnums. One day I told myself, if you are going to pull the trigger, you will feel the recoil anyway, so just make the shot count. After that I was fine. It was more mind over matter for me. I do have a 45/70 guide hun that with 500g. Will rock your world. a few of those goes a long way.....
I agree 500gs is some whoop a-- I have a CZ550 in 458 Lott and shoot the Hornady 500gr out of it. It's more of a big push in that it isn't all that sharp a recoil but after 5 shots its like I hit my funny bone and my pinky and ring finger get a bit tingly.

Hopefully you are joking, cause I'm LMAO! If you truly have issue with that nasty recoiling Remington 700 ADL 30-06 with a Laminate stock, I might be interested in helping by taking it off your hands, for a reasonable price! I only own nine '06s right now. I could use one more!

My Tooley 375 H&H is also a big push and very comfortable. Very slow and long recoil pulse. It has mercury decelerators. Not like a 300UM or the like. I have a new Tooley 458 lott, but have never shot it. Never been hurt shooting standing up. Only on a bench.
I have a 300UM Christensen Carbon job. It weighs in with glass around 7lbs. 210 smks at 3100+ fps. It's a peach with the titanium break. Without it? Kinda like stopping a school bus with your face.I'm tagging in to tell everyone that this thread is invalid.

....I've found that recoil is subjective......So is "noise to shooters ear"......So when it comes to someone's opinion on recoil, muzzle brakes, suppressors it's all subjective and opinions --- I find that a "poll" of opinions will give you an average subjective opinion which seems to be better than a single one--- just my opinion though
As the conversation usually goes, yes subjective, but much can be quantified, and is the only way meaning full conversation can take place.
One can boast about shooting a 12 lb .458 Winchester, but a stock .45-70 Ruger #3 may bring tears to the eyes. Devils in the objective details. A 16 lb LRKM isn't the same rifle as a 9lb Remington just because they are both .338 Edge.
JE Custom has done much good video work quantifying the effect of muzzle breaks, if you're new here they are worth the watch. If not for preserving your shoulder, demonstrating what happens to your rifle in the process.
