Ice fishing fish finder recommendations

Gearing up for ice fishing is fairly new to me. I have been mostly a minimalist since 2003 and have gone with friends already set-up. But because of school, I can no longer afford to depend on others' gears and schedule because my available time is incompatible with theirs. In the last two months I have invested in sled, Eskimo 2 tent, Eskimo 8" pistol drill auger, Milwaukee cordless drill (1250 FT-LB torque), and other miscellaneous stuff totaling over $800+. The fish finder will complete what I think I need. As previously noted, I am undecided at this time and keeping my options open for any upcoming end of season/clearance or preseason sale. All I know is that I have a blast out there regardless. Thanks again for your input.

I figure it is not going to be my last ... settled and got this today (saved $80). A bit late for the season but I'll be ready for next season. Might have to get a regular transducer to try it in open waters for this spring.

My dad has been using a Ice 35 for three years and it's been bulletproof. I got the fabric case for him. I'll recommend adding it. It's a great entry level unit. You'll love the size of the screen and how easy it is to see in the sun. Small transducer that doesn't easily get tangled up by a fish circling the hole. Looks into adding a transducer arm modification like a Marcum has.

It's one of my new favorite as well.

My 14 year old son, my dad and I all have Vexilar FL-28 Ultra Packs and absolutely love them. They are top of the line flashers. If you want a great unit for the money the Vexilar FL-8 Genz pack would be great and can be had for around $250-$275.

Not a fan of Marcum at all.
