Coyote killed my dog.

To the OP, sorry for your loss. Around here we have to trap them this time of year. I am looking into getting a couple of traps. I do not want any pets around here going missing. And, no, we were here before the coyotes.

Yeah, he will come back, it's his territory! Depends on fencing, terrain and other variables about a week is a circuit for a lot of critters.

I've hunted over bait a lot of years and it works but you never know what critter will come in, they all like it. In some areas and times of the year baiting can get you in trouble with the law. I hope you kill him twice, once for your dog and once for you.

They will be back. May not be back for s while but as long as an easy food source exist they'll keep going to the table.
Rural area, ask around and see if someone has a crossbow you can barrow and use some game cams to see when their on the hunt.

You can also check with your game and fish management. Some states they'll come out and trap the area to remove them

That's why I recommended traps or snares they work 24/7.
You can't be out there all the time. A snare can wait all year?

Sorry to hear about your dog. Like others have said they will come back. Last year I shot one from the back patio and 6 hrs later I shot his buddy that was with him. They usually travel through areas at about the same time too. Good luck getting it.

Sorry tothear about your dog. Now to your question, it will come back. Coyotes are oportunistic predators and they tend to return to areas where there is easy prey (house pets), so give it a few days but it will come back. They tend to enter a neighborhood from the same place even if they have been scared off before and they generally stick to close to the same route. I see a few at work the same time and same place every other day. Good luck

Would not use traps inn suburban areas...dogs, cats can get in them. Bait with Tuna/cat food and shotgun if legal outside city limits

You must not be a trapper! If you use stops on your snares and the right traps.
You just let dogs go Unhurt just wiser..I kill all cats!
They have break aways so deer or cattle can pull out Coyotes can't.

You may have already killed the one that got your dog . If you hit one of them the pack will finish it off. They won't pass up a meal in the winter. Either way no reason you shouldn't try to get some more if you have the time to put in. I'm sorry about your pet.

Might check the regs first. AZ requires a licence to trap where the require you to pay for a class and pass a test. California being the neighbor state it's starting to gobble up Az

I didn't mean advertise it! Take a walk with a 1/2 dozen snares in your pocket.
Make trail sets no bait or urine needed. Look for hair in fence wire or foot prints. In weedy places a 12" loop 12" off the ground is good. In and out!.. Remember Sgt. Schultz from Hogans Heroes?

Sorry to hear of your loss. And again if this advice is redundant - too many pages to wade through for me.
Coyotes are very territorial and view other canines as rtrespassers and dinner. First be advised many states have laws concerning firearm discharge within specified distance of inhabited dwellings.
When the Coyote that killed your pet is killed another will take his place as the area suites their needs.
Were it me I would try to make the area unfriendly to the Coyote. Human scent is usually a very good deterrent BUT in some areas they become desensitized to it. I would try sprinkling human hair around the perimeter of your fenced area-- hair holds a lot of human scent - your barbers wastebasket is a valuable resource. Repeat weekly.
As far as a return visit-- count on it-- either by this Coyote or another.
