Redding bushing die setup

Yeah order a .288 and .289 you should be good. Measure with your pin guages andcalipers and see what you come up with.
 
I don't think you want to do it with a fired round.
This is correct. That fired neck is no where near what you want. I'm guessing you don't have a bullet or seating die yet? Can't think of a simpler way of doing this and you don't need trigonometry. ;)
 
So with the equipment and tools I have on hand here's what I'm thinking, check the case neck ID of once fired brass with pin gage, then measure OD with calipers, should get me to wall thickness. Then do the math and order the bushing. Does that sound reasonable? Or will I run into problems using this method?

For information purposes and a idea of bushing sizes the 6.5 Creedmoor Forster bushing bump die kit comes with three bushings, 0.288″, 0.290″, and 0.292″
 
I am waiting for my bushing to arrive as we speak. I measured a loaded round of Hornady brass 143gr eld-x and a loaded round of Lapua brass 143 eld-x. Both were between .290-.291 I ordered a .289 bushing.

Are you using the same brand of brass all the time??

Different brass will have different neck wall thicknesses.

That's one of the reasons why people neck turn, to get the same neck wall thickness to suit their chamber.

As I don't 'turn' I tend to have 2 or 3 bushings one is spot on for most of my brass, the other 2 suit different brands I use.

Dang Sherm, didnt see this one. Good idea, glad to see I'm thinking correctly since that's what I came up with.
I'll get it figured out and order one tonight hopefully.
