Scope repair services needed.

Yes it could be fine. But its only for their brand of product. Of which I do not like the scopes they offer now. I will not spend another 300.00 on top of the credit to buy a FFP scope that I have no use for. And do not even like.

When I bought this scope it was not a going out of business sale. It was a model they offered and they just quit offering it not long ago. But I do agree with you. It might come back to get you later.

I will say this. I found a place that will fix the scope for 185 Bucks. And take care of problems they say are common in most scopes. And I still have the scope I want. And come out cheaper then paying 300.00 over top of the store credit for a scope I do not want.

To me that's a win win.

Just a little extra info. Here is there Warranty statement.

Transferable, No Receipt Required
If We Cannot Repair It, We Will Replace It
No Questions Asked

ON EDIT: If the money refunded was for ANY product in their store or Given as cash back. I would be all Over it. But since its limited only to their brand of product. I have no use for it at all.
 
The scope I had repaired was an older 6-18 Redfield golden 5 Star. Cost me $115 to repair it. Leupold would give me a $100 credit towards a new Leupold scope simply because they bought the Redfield name this truly was stand-up for them to offer anything on a scope they didn't even make. In the interim while waiting to get my scope repaired I bought two Leupold 6-18 scopes and love them after getting my old Redfield back from repair I noticed the huge difference in glass clarity and now really don't even use the Redfield it's been relegated to a rarily use firearm. I think in hind sight I'd of been better off taking the credit towards a new piece of glass. I don't know just how old this discontinued model of yours is it may not fall under the same sort of situation where advances in glass have made having it repaired a somewhat questionable proposition.

Dude - you have to tell us what scope it is or who at least makes it :) Sounds like their could be some valuable information to pass along to those considering purchasing through them in the future...
 
Just a FYI, if you have a Bausch and Lomb or Bushnell scope, your lifetime warranted is 30 years. After that they give you a credit for a new scope. But the new scope is priced at full retail. I was able to find a new scope cheaper on sale than it would have been through them with the old scope credit. When I questioned them about the lifetime warrantee, and that I was still alive, they didn't care.

This scope is about 3 years old. LOL That quit making it about two years (or at least that's when they no longer had it on the shelf)after I bought it. So its not a age thing I can say that. That's to bad about the lifetime warranty you had. Some places say the lifetime of the product. Does that mean as soon as it goes bad its no longer covered? ;)

Its about 3 years old. Put it this way. The glass used to beat my Leupold VX3. Now its the other way around.

Thats one reason I like Leupold! There customer service is top notch. The same thin with Leica. At-lest with the product I had that failed. They paid shipping to and from my place and sent me a new Product free of charge.

I hear you. I just do not want to be the one that starts a Brand knock party. I like the scope. It just now has problems. Its a brand that lots of people say you cant beat for the money. Its a single stores brand. The scope is 3-15x42. That should say it all.

I hear you. I just do not want to be the one that starts a Brand knock party. I like the scope. It just now has problems. Its a brand that lots of people say you cant beat for the money. Its a single stores brand. The scope is 3-15x42. That should say it all.

The old SWFA SS huh? All scopes can have issues, it always sucks when that happens too:)
 
Got to be the discontinued SWFA SS SFP, I have one and like it a lot. I have their FFP also and its nice too. Their 5-20x50 HD is on a whole other level though. Just out of curiosity what broke on the scope? What is it doing or not doing? Might want to get credit and wait until their sale and put in some extra and get the 5-20x50HD non illuminated, its glass is great and turrets are nice.

The side focus is not working right. As in it will no longer clear up all the way. And the reticle mover around when its adjusted. I think a lens came loose. Talked with a repair shop and they think the same thing.

As stated before I will not be going back to the MFG for a trade in plus 300.000 bucks more to get a Scope I do not want. I will not buy a FFP scope for hunting, just cant stand them. Really bad for low light shooting. I shoot at night on yotes, It would be pathetic for that.

I am sure the 5-20x50 SWFA is a nice scope. But its everything I do not want in a scope. Its Mil and its FFP. Thanks though!

Lol - I hate FFP scopes for hunting as well. I have tried it two different times and hated it both times. I put a VX5HD 3-15x56 on my coyote rig last year and it gathers more light than anything else I have seen. I love spotlighting dogs - one of my passions :)

If it was me I would use the credit to get a new scope and trade it for a VX5HD or something you want instead of dumping more money into it. What if this happens again or something else happens to it? You'll have to keep paying to get it fixed, I also have to wonder if the warranty will be voided as soon as you have a 3rd party repair it? Good luck with whatever you decide. There are a lot of good scopes out there.

This isn't a Leupold scope is it? I've had really good luck with their scopes and their warranty. I recently purchased a Ruger 77 tang safety, round top with a Leupold 3.5 X 10 VX III for $400 on line, so I never saw the rifle before I purchased it. The rifle was going to be a donor rifle so I wasn't too concerned about the condition, and for me the scope was a bonus. The scope was old and the same vintage as the rifle (1973). The clarity of the scope was "okay" however I thought that it could be better. I sent the scope back with their warranty form, where they would either fix the scope or replace it with a newer comparable model. They replaced the scope. I know that there are people on the forum who will argue/debate that Leupold is not the best scope on the market. All I can say is that I have a safe full of Leupolds (around 25) and that they have served me well over nearly 50 years.
 
I to am a fan of the Leupold scopes Or shall I say more of their Warranty then anything! If it was a Leupold scope I would not have posted up this thread.

ON EDIT: It will not happen again. After it gets fixed it will have better glue holding it together AND there will be loctite holding the rings in place internally that hold the lenses in place to keep them from moving. Not to mention. This scope will end up spending most its life on a 22lr... ;)
