Caliber choice ?

I'm late to the game on this but from personal experience I would say 22-250. It will work ok for hogs with proper shot placement. I've seen a lot of hogs run away from a 223, but again it's all about shot placement.

The 243 win is an awesome round. If you handload, you have an incredible amount of options. Theres also a wide variety of factory loads. Softer on the shoulder, cheaper, easier on meat and skins. It's deadly on deer. I bet you couldn't count how man kids killed their first deer with a 243. I know several adults that still use it. My daughter will probably own one in the next year or two.

You already have what is arguably the best all around caliber/cartridge for North America. If you don't want to damage a pelt, throw a small mono bullet in there (101, 124 Hammer or similar). It would be a laser beam throwing those little monos!
If you're just looking for an excuse to purchase another rifle, we can all relate to that. 224 Valkyrie is a fun one and between barrel twist and bullet mfgs., most of the kinks are worked out now.

Ok so i want a gun good for just about anything. I have a 30-06 that i use but when i want to shoot a fox and its runnin that 30-06 blows it to shreads and i want the skins. So i want something that would be smaller than a 30-06 and good for hunting predators and wild boar i go boar hunting but alot of times im hiking alot when hunting so i want something thats a little lighter wait. But what im trying to get at is whats a good caliber gun thats smaller than the 30-06 for my uses. THanks
243 is my choice. Good for average size deer down to coyotes. Shoot 500 yds no problem. If you load your own ammo , you can pick and choose what you want to shoot with the 243.

I use my 204 ruger. But I love shooting deer with my 22 250. When I get my new 22 250 rifle. I am moving up to a 70gr Berger vld bullet in the new one.

My hog and dog favorite is a 6.5 Grendel in an accurate AR platform. If you are shooting at running predators an accurate and quick second or third shot is essential. I am assuming if you are shooting at running foxes that it is mostly 250 yards or less. I have the new ATN Thermal Thor 4 on mine and really like the package. Plenty of reticles to choose from for running shots and the thermal signature of a hit is very easy to see.

We shot 22-250 for years picked up a 223 that is crazy accurate and haven't really missed the old 22-250 but I did build a 6 Creedmoor that's turned into a great all around rifle love both
