Loading for a hunting buddy. Rem 700, 30 06, 24 inch barrel 1:10. Most shots will be 200 yds and under on deer. I'm thinking something in the 165 range that won't break the bank. He's a good shot so DRT would be nice. Not going to go with Bergers. I'de like an exit .I have on hand 180g Barnes TSX and maybe Sierra GK hollow points. Was never happy with Game Kings close in. Looked like they were shot with an ice pick. Mostly want to see them print well at 100yds. Powders i'm flexible on. Remember this isn't your custom rifle. ;)

Ive gotten good accuracy with the Lehigh Defense controlled chaos line. Solid copper with a deep hollow point. The nose fragments and the rear keeps driving. Like a Barnes with less weight retention and faster expansion. They expand very fast.

I should add, they're quite reasonable. I think I paid $42/100 for 7mm 142 grain

For what you are wanting, a Nosler 165 gr Partition and H4350 powder will be as good as it gets. Midway has a discounted price on the bullets.

Always had good luck with 180 grain Partitions and 180 grain Accubonds in my 30-06's.

I use 265 grain Partitions for same use as you and am completely satisfied with results in my rifle and conditions.

At under 200 yards on deer, nearly anything you shoot out of a .30-06 will work. Personally I prefer Barnes TTSX or Nosler E-tips, primarily for the lead free aspect, not so much for the environment but for my peace of mind that no lead is in my table fare.

For deer under 200 yards, 130-150 class will provide all you need plus a little less felt recoil and much flatter trajectories. At those ranges it really just depends on your, and the rifle's, preferences.

Either the 200 Accubond, or Partition have done a good job, for me over many years, in the -06. That said I'm switching to the Hammer's

The 199 Sledge Hammer at the stated range would be my pick, but the Hammer 181 Sledge hammer, or 174 Hammer Hunter are likely a better general use choice.

If you're bench is like mine, I could keep him busy shooting up remnants until time to hunt (cheap side), but don't be surprised if the Hammer's shoot like he's upgraded his rifle.
