300 Norma vs 300 Norma Imp

Thanks all for your input. I just submitted my request to Manson Precision Reamers. They will draw it up and send it back for my approval and then the wait begins.

I will start a build thread once I have at least one component in my hands.

Ryan Pierce is building my rifle, he has the dies from whidden. He has pushed a 215 Berger as hard as 3275fps in lapua brass with N570. Accuracy is around 3200 on most builds. My rifle is almost finished. He has 300 rounds through his 300nm imp, and has zero throat erosion he says. I also have a standard 300nm built by Mesa that will be delivered in a week, it's a heavier target style rifle, but does have a proof 1:9 barrel, just like the rifle Ryan is building. I'll have a direct comparison between standard vs improved. I'll be running lapau brass and 215 Bergers in both builds.
Please give us an update between the two Normas when you get them all set up.

I am still debating but almost ready to start acquiring parts so now is crunch time. I'm leaning towards the 300 NMI over the standard 300 NM. I am not really looking for the additional capacity so much as I hate trimming cases. Using quality brass such as Peterson or Lapua, how often does a standard 300 NM need to be trimmed? I need to determine once and for all if the Imp is worth the added cost and time.
I have a 300NM with improved 35 degree shoulder. Just sized some Norma brass that has been fired 4x. Out of 97 I found 3 that need trimmed.

have 800 rounds through the 10 twist Bartlein in my 300 LRH and was starting to chase rifling but still shoots good, probably about done but I don't care, I just got two 7.2 twist 5R Rock Creek barrels in and have custom ordered (demanded) a couple bullets to match, fun times ahead, should see the target bullets soon and the hunting version shortly after

Wow those are hot looking bullets. Who's making those for you? And is your cartridge a version of 300 NM AI?

Well not exactly an "Ackley Improved" 300 Norma Mag but more like a P'Imped (Pro Improved) 300/423 Dakota ..... Will have more info on the bullets once I get them, have 250 pcs of each coming along with some new .408 cal bullets, my .423 cal bullets for the 420 Blitzkrieg are a sight to behold, yo !

Swamplord you have the most exciting toys on the web..!!

Those 308 hunting bullets are what I've been wanting for yrs. Someone finally put the bloated nose on a diet and built a very long for weight mono metal bullet. That allows a higher bc at the same weight compared to cup and core. High bc and high velocity in one package. If I can get my hands on some I'll build a 300 magnum of some sort with a 7.5 twist or faster barrel.

I wonder how deep the hollow point is and whether the bullet holds together when it expands or shatters like Hammers apparently do? I think I'd rather have a bullet that holds together when it expands for a wider wound channel.

Thank you very much..!!

What kind of .30 cal bullets are those swamplord?? I'm doing a NM IMP as we speak

I have loaded the 230 Berger's and 212 eldx with h1000 and done great with those loads.
However, really wanted to try hammer Bullets so going to load up some 199 and 214.
I finally got some viht 570 powder so looking for any ideas on where to start.
Steve gave some loads with h1000 just wanting to see if anyone has tried 570 with hammer Bullets.

Gun has proof 26" 1-9twist barrel.

Swamplord any news on those hunting Bullets ?

Interested in this--

For those of you running 300nm or Imp- with all copper what are you seeing for velocity from those 181HH or 200LRX?

Bumping the thread. Interested in building a 300NM or 300NMI. Which is better? Handloading is not a problem.

If you take a look at a couple guys building quite a few of them ( Alex and Ryan) there building the improved version for a reason.
