Is anyone shooting a 270?

I have always had really good results with a 270. I'm thinking about building a 270 weatherby or 270 wsm. Anyone using these anymore? The 150 ABLR or 170 Berger Has a high BC

The 150 ABLR is somewhat overstated, but throw an 8 twist in and it increases closer to what they claim. The 170 EOL would be fantastic in either of those two options, though if you go WSM make sure you build it on a long action and have it throated for the 170. I am going to be building an 8 twist .270 SS on a short action, should send the 170's around 3000+ fps, that should make for a potent load.

Even just a good ol .270 win is a pretty decent round. Check out the performance possible running the 145 eld-x when compared to a 6.5 creed sending a 140 VLD at 2825 fps

The 270 Win. is one of my favorite cartridges and my first rifle. I shot my elk with one this year. I also have a 270 WSM, have only shot an antelope with it, need to spend some more time with it.

My oldest boy shoots one, 140 sst at 3100 kills deer like lightning. Still about the best all around deer cartridge there is, and plenty capable for elk.

Why not just build a 7mm WSM or 7mm RemMag with a 26" 1:8 twist barrel?

Or a .264 WinMag with a 26" 1:8 twist... That would be nasty.

If you're going for light recoil, a .25-06 AI 40º with 1:7 twist to push the new Blackjack 131 bullets.

Because he wants to be different. Nothing wrong with staying out of the mainstream.

Rock the WSM with a quick twist and don't apologise to anyone. No need for a 26" tube either...

Love all the 270's, just a bbl length change makes them sing ,let alone a twist change which is great also , just find the right smith & the sky's the limit !!! Great graphs Cody thks ,Cheers

I had a 270 WSM on a long action built. Throated it for the 170 Berger's. Push them at a warm 3200, with Retumbo and 215m.
Have ran it out to 1600 on steel/rocks having fun.
Serious elk medicine out to 700. Been pretty happy with performance so far.

I built a custom Argentine Mauser in 270 with a Shilen short chambered barrel. Once I got all the bugs worked out the Boyds laminated thumbhole stock by bedding, pillars, finding numerous secondary recoil lugs (interferences) it shoots like a dream. My 14 year old grandaughter shot her first deer in '18, at 275 yards. She had never shot it before that. I was quite happy. First critter down with this gun. That build was 5 years of off and on project of shooting great to shooting like a brown bess. What a problem fit of stock to action. I just have a pet load of 130 grain Sierra SPBT and Re 19 powder at 3000 fps. Did a nice job on a fat doe in Kaibab, Az. Leaving it alone now.

I put a new 1:8 twist on my 270 wsm and love it. I have a 6.5 PRC and a 7mm mag but all I've been shooting this past year has been my 270 wsm. 156 Hammers under 400 and 170 Bergers out to 1200 its a shooter. Using Retumbo I'm getting 2980 fps with the 170s so not only is it flatter than my 7 mag it hits harder too. The 6.5 with the 143 I like for antelope on windy plains of Wyoming but I prefer the heavier bullets for big mulies and elk so I take my 270 wsm or 300 wm. Enjoy your build I think you will like the results.

I grew up on a 270 win and still have a 270 weatherby, they are both fine rounds but suffered for years from poor bullet selection. Bullet choices are getting more abundant but I don't see the point switching from my 300 wsm to a 270wsm. It really dosent make sense ballisticly where I'm shooting the 215 bergers with good results

First great love in a hunting rifle was a Model 70 Winchester in 270 win. My particular rifle loved th 150 gr Sierra Gamekings. The rifle gave sub .5 moa groups st a tad over 2900 FPS. I used it effectively on whitetails, Muleys and antelope never failing to preform. It's my son favorite caliber and also I own a couple 270 wsm's as well.

JS, had a Tikka .270 Win that was a laser. Now have a Mark V Weatherby in .270 Wby with a new Kreiger barrel and a Vanguard .270 Win. Very handy caliber, easy to load and great for big Az. mulies.

270 has been my go to for a long time. I use the 150 grain ballistic tip for light game and the 150 grain partition for heavier game. 58 grains of h4831sc for both loads. Currently working with reloader 26 for more speed and accuracy.
Love the 35 whelen for heavy game though. Barnes 225 tsx with 55 grains of 4064. It delivers.
