The old 25-06 Remington and 270 Winchester shot flatter than 6.5 CM

I agree that you are more likely to get really small, < 1/2", groups with customs. And with glass, 99% of the time you get what you pay for, although the law of diminishing marginal returns applies. A lot of rifle manufacturers are guaranteeing moa with premium factory loads and with all this long range shooting popularity there are some really nice factory rounds available. I just point that out because it is easier nowadays than ever before to get lucky with cheap factory guns, optics and ammo. I will never talk anybody out of spending coin on guns and optics tho.
I agree and I do not want to cast dispersions on anyone's equipment. We all must make do with what we can afford and I'm no different. My only point here is the 6.5 creedmoor is a fine round but not the super round it gets knighted.

I think a lot of the pushback comes from this being a long range site - so retained energy and performance at 600-1200 yards is really the debate with these smaller rounds. If we were discussing these calibers in the context of 0-300 yards on a different site, I think there would be less argument.

Understood. That makes sense. With my 25-06, 600 would be my limit on medium game...although many have taken game from farther...I won't.

I lerk the shadows of this forum almost everyday. I love it, but the 6.5 anything threads are always a good source of comedy.
Hi ihuntforchrist, I actually just read a post about what is the smallest caliber that can be used for bear hunting, the 6.5CM was never mentioned. I almost just interjected it into the posts to create some havoc. And.....that's when the fight started.

You simply can't have a thread discussing caliber recommendations without bringing up the merits of the mighty 6.5CM. :)

It's a great little cartridge, and I have several rifles chambered in it. That said, I actually side with the article this thread was started on. I prefer the trajectory and velocity of my 257wby for most of my hunting over the "wind beating" BC's of the 6.5cm... Now, throw the 147eldm at weatherby velocities and we're having an entirely different conversation.

To each their own. I don't dislike any cartridge that puts a bullet where it needs to go and provides enough terminal performance to kill an animal quickly. I also know the nut behind the gun is what matters more than the bullet or cartridge. There's no reason to fight over it. Lol.

Excellent post! And welcome to the forum.

I'm also of mostly Saxon/Germanic heritage. That's a nice moose in your avatar...Do you hunt in the Schwarzwald?
Hey mudrunner, sorry for the long time in replying.
I am in The Rhineland Pfals area so haven't had a chance to hunt the Black Forest yet: hoping to soon
Thanks for the welcome
Brad
