Dream scope

I had an SWFA SS 5-20×50 HD for a few years. For the price, they are a pretty darn good scope. Buy one used for $900-1100, and they are awesome. Get a throw lever and parallax gripper too.
Glass: better than Vortex Razor Gen 1 5-20×50, way better than a PST. Clear, good color, very little CA, good contrast. Similar to my Steiner T5Xi at same magnification.
Tracking: mine was dead on out to 1500+ yards and returned to exact zero every single time
Turrets: good. No zero stop, but it can be made to have a shim kit.
Eye box/relief: easy to get behind and plenty of relief when shooting my .300RUM when it was a sporter weight.
Weight/length: acceptable
Reticle: very usable. Easily visible on 5x, a bit thick on 20x for tiny targets on paper, but just fine for game, even prairie dogs at 300-500+.
Parallax: the ring is stiff. Hence the need for the gripper ring. Work it back and forth and it loosens up, but will always be "stiff". But still usable. Just not a 2 finger rotation. Parallax function works great though.

Thanks for the detailed info!
Not to muddy the waters further but I just became aware of the Steiner P4Xi which can be had for less than a $1k. If its similar to the T5Xi then I think I'd be happy. It also has a 56mm objective so in theory it'll be brighter than the vortex and the SWFA, but sacrificing a bit of magnification.

Hmmm.... I honestly believe glass is so subjective. Old man eyes bought a vx3 in 94 and was like WOW! I can honestly say I've never been behind a S&B but looked through most of the rest. Swarovski doesn't give me a wow above my atac, vortex lrh hd, or tract. I will say that that tracking and reticle plane is a personal preference. As many have said on this great sight " give me a scope that tracks... and I will make it happen ". That being said... that amg is solid for a dialer. Again not a bang just 2 bits. Look at as many as you can and let some fly. It's hard not to like NF or better. My atac f1 always hits and dials exact, but the amg wasn't available on that build. Manners, Krieger, defience,hs metal.2lb trigger tech. I think if you like it... you will practice and love your rig!

Love my NF scopes but for something I've got to pack very far up in the hills the Razor AMG is a pretty sweet scope.

I finally got my dream scope, a vortex razor genII 4.5-27x56.
Ffp, illuminated reticle, mil/mil, everything you could want in a long range scope but heavy as a brick.
It's just too heavy for my already heavy rifles. I am going to sell it and replace it with something much lighter. What is a good long range scope with tactical milling turrets and comparable range that is about 2lbs lighter?
Another vote for the Mk 5 HD, very impressed with my 5-25x56 just did a tracking test up to 50 MOA and it was perfect.
I weighed it on my digital scale, 29.2 OZ, Leupold makes Back Country weaver style rings that weigh 3.6 OZ

I'm another for March, this place has the best prices that I have found
longrangesupply.com
I wish the 3-24x52 fma moa reticle had an illuminated option, that's my only hang-up. I have a 3-24x42 fma-1 illum and love it. My new 300 norma needs optics. The used to make an illuminated moa reticle in the 52mm obj but can only get them used now.

They have it in the FMA 2 that looks like the FML but in MOA

Dream scope: A march 3-24x52 but with a better reticle design, much less finicky parallax, and Vortex/Leupold/Swaro level warranty/support.

If Vortex could build a 3-18 AMG in the same weight class as the March 3-24 that would be killer.
