7mm WSM Seems to becoming obsolete ?

You all, might want to read,.. loaders_ loft's comments on WHY, the 7 WSM, WASN'T a "success" for,. the AVERAGE "Hunter" ! ( Bbl "burnout" and FEEDING issues ! )
BUT you will also, NOTE that, 2 people posting above, have "Custom Rifles" using, BRUX barrels ! Love BRUX barrels and they're, "good" People to deal with !
But obviously, some people still "like" the 7 WSM and are willing, to put up with, the "issues" and it,.. "works" for them. But the .270 WSM is an, "EASY Button" for,... ME !
I do wish that, some Factory would "standardize", the 7 mm-270 WSM, tho.

Actually you should read my post again. I said, "It feeds perfectly." Furthermore I never mentioned anything about it not being a success or anything about average hunters. And as a personal favor, would you mind easing up on the excessive punctuation? It's hard to read. Thanks and have a great evening.

So I would like to know.... who out there is running Hornady brass in this cartridge and what kind of life you're getting out of it?

@ loaders,..
Sorry bud, I thought I read that, you modified your Rifle with a NEW follower, to feed. There were many complaints, several years ago about, staggered Box magazines not feeding the WSM cartridge's very well, in model 70's and others like it. I'm not gonna argue with you, but that was a fact back when, the WSM's were first created by Win. Only the Tikka's with single stack Mag's fed OK, until mod's were made on the feed ramp's, guide rails, followers, etc. of Winchester Model 70's and many went back to the Factory under warranty. You also stated you obtained short barrel life, I was just agreeing with you, on both of your statements. Sorry about the punctuation, I'll try to do better but, the OP wanted to know, the reasons why, the 7 WSM is becoming, obsolete and slowly, dying out. Doesn't mean they won't shoot, tho. By average hunter's I meant to say, the guys that buy a box or, two of ammo, sight in and go hunt. They are what drives Rifle and ammo sales for the Gun companies and make or break them.
I gave you a "like" on what you wrote about your troubles with the gun and how you solved the issues, thinking that, you have a good Rifle, now. Good luck with it !

I don't think being a barrel burner is going to influence many people. The 270 WSM can only be worse in that regard and many companies still chamber for it (Browning, Winchester, Remington, Tikka. Might have missed some even).

I agree, with the barrel burner part, as most Deer/ Elk hunters will never, shoot one out, just practicing, a few times a year and hunting Game. Both the .270 and 7 mm WSM run pretty fast for their Bore size. I kinda "baby" my .270 wsm by using, just under, the Max load with a slow burning Powder. I try to keep the bbl cool when shooting (3 shots then wait, if trying for a 5 shot group ).

I picked up some Hornady brass mostly for comparison in load development vs Winchester. I haven't reloaded the Hornady enough to give a good answer to your question. What I did find was a small but noticeable improvement in my groups with the Hornady

I am one of those that feel All WSM's benefit from a center feed mag box. If you convert from another cartridge you have to open the guide rails up to fit the WSM and this can be tricky, but doable, Stagger feed mags load buy starting off center and ending up centered on the chamber. this process can damage the bullet tip and can mar the case.

Center feed mags start the round on center and load directly into the chamber without ever touching the bullet if set up correctly. Many of the factory stagger feed rifles are marginal at best and can sometimes cause a malfunction in feeding more that one round or simply not holding more than two well. the center feed solves this.

Short magnums have there place, especially in compact rifle needs and perform very well if loaded and cared for properly. Only match shooters that routinely shoot 100+ rounds a month have a barrel wear problem. There are MANY barrel burners other that the WSM's
and under normal hunting and siteing in will never give a problem to there owners if taken care of.

I am a 270 fan myself, but bullet selection is not as good as the 7 mm and 30 cal bullets and with a larger case capacity than other WSM's it has a slight advantage. I have owned All of the WSM's and settled for the 7 WSM and the 338 RCM for my use.

I don't let cases become a problem or a reason not to build a rifle with the cartridge I want because with patience I have been able to find brass in quantities that will keep the rifle fed and when a deal presents it's self, I will buy extra just in case. (Brass has a good shelf life). Also I like to find out what other brass I can use to make the cartridge I want just in case, but have not had to rely on alternate cartridge cases to continue loading for any of the less available cases

Who makes a center fed mag that sits flush with the bottom of the stock?

I currently have a 6.5 GAP 4S that sits in a Manners MCS-T, Hinged floor plate built off a Rem short action but I will eventually add a 7 to my collection and most likely a WSM as I am a fan of the short actions.

What rifle do you have ?

I have a Win Mod 70 CRF in 300 Win. I was trying to convert it to a shorter magnum case so I don't have to get a Wyatt's extended box and new bottom metal, but it sounds like it might be easier than getting a WSM case to feed properly in my situation. What are your thoughts?

I'm not a LR shooter nor target shooter, but the "Beanfield rifle" craze got to me one time, and I wanted to "try something different". My local smith had been making a lot of rifles in the Lazzeroni cartridges and using their magazine box/follower to create an "in line" magazine, you just opened the floorplate and dropped in your rounds "ala Krag style! So, I bought one of the last ( around here anyway) Mod 700 .308 Varmint model with the unfluted barrel. It was in a nice synthetic stock so, I had my smith convert it to the 300 WSM, It shot like the proverbial "house afire" and it was easy to get 3100 with the 180 NBT. Since I don't hunt out here where I shoot LR nor "want to" carry a 10#+ rifle in the mountains, I gave it to my pastor down in Texas. He had far more opportunites to use a rifle like that down there, even for "point and shoot" hunting. I don't know what he ever did with it, if anything. I had given him one of the mid 90's then Mod 700 ADL SS in 7mm Rem Mag, nothing done to it but a trigger job, and he uses it for everything! ha My point is the "in line magazine" loaded from the bottom worked swell. :)
