EOL Scouting elk with airplanes?! SMH...

I think the difference is the time delay afterward. You drive around, then return to your base before you start tracking. Or you have to check your game camera, then start tracking. With flying, because of the speed of the plane, you can be back to the airport and in your vehicle within a few minutes. It stretches the concept of "fair chase," and some state just plain outlaw it. There is also the issue of "driving" game. You can push game with a plane. Not so easy with a vehicle and essentially impossible with a camera.
Is the airport closer than the average base camp?

You seem to forget. You started by saying he intentionally put others and himself in danger. You have no idea of his intention unless he tells you. I am still on the same level I was when you and I started this hijack.

When a pilot INTENTIONALLY fails to check NOTAM's which is REQUIRED BY THE FAA OF EVERY PILOT BEFORE EVERY FLIGHT, you have made a conscious CHOICE to disregard FAA regulations put in place to ensure the safety of everyone in the air. It is an involitile rule of flying, like checking weather and fuel before flight, or going below minimums on an instrument approach. There is no leeway given and there are no circumstances when it is ever ok. To put it in terms you can understand: It is the equivalent of shooting your rifle into the air, with no idea who or what is in the direction you shot. And then claiming, "Well, I didn't hit anyone. So what's the problem?" It is inexcusable and indefensible. Period. If you and Wildrose can't or refuse to understand that, then that's your problem and reflects on you.

Ask any decent pilot about how serious it is to fly into a Presidential TFR. Again, in terms you can relate to: It's the equivalent to jumping the fence at the White House and running across the lawn with a weapon. If you are not shot or arrested, you got very lucky. It's a restricted area around the president, for his safety, as is the TFR. Anyone violating it is considered to be INTENTIONALLY attempting to harm the POTUS and is dealt with accordingly.

Then ask them how bad it was to fly on 9/12/01. Maybe you'll believe them. Geez....

Good point...
Take offs and landings are recorded on aircraft flight logs, by the pilot, and by tower/ATC, as well as all communications which are time-stamped. Sometime passengers names are also recorded on the aircraft log. You pay for the aircraft, etc. So there would be a paper trail. But the Game Warden would have to have some reason to suspect you flew and flew within the required waiting period in order to have a reason to investigate.

I had packed up in on horseback for my elk hunt this year a few days before opening day. I'll be darned if a plane didnt come flying over crazy low scouting for elk the day before opening day. Totally rubbed me the wrong way...I had been keeping an eye on a herd of elk through my spotter about 3 miles away and the stupid plane sat there and circled around them until they busted over the mountain.

In Oregon the success rate is 4%. I heard the state does that on purpose here. Maybe that's what happened to you.
