6.5mm - 25cal = .007"

First, hats off to everyone pushing the limits of the 25. We'll learn more because of what you are doing.
But daggon gents, alot of weight is being placed upon one bullet.
For instance, I ran a ballistic calc of a .257 bullet, weight 131 grs., .661 G1 BC, leaving the barrel at 2950 fps. It arrives at a 500 yard target with 1480 ft. lbs of energy. In a 10 mph crosswind, it will drift approximately 12.7".
A .264 bullet, weight 130 grs. .571 G1 BC, leaving the barrel at 3200 fps. Arriving on a 500 yard target with 1627 ft. lbs of energy with 13.4" inches of drift in a 10 mph crosswind.

Apples to Apples no, but I love this comparison. I read it as .25x47 vs 264 win mag and you're only losing 150 ft lbs and .7" wind drift at 500 yds. With a lot less powder, recoil, action length... given you could run the win mag hotter than 3200 with handloads and choose heavier bullets where it would shine, but I'm very surprised they are that close.

??? I um, oh I give up. someone posted that a .25 will run the 131 at about 2950 or so.

Ok, not sure what you're giving up on. I was replying to your post comparing the .257 131gr at 2950 fps (the velocity blackjack lists with the 25x47 that I shared earlier) to a 6.5 130gr at 3200 fps (published max for a 264 win mag on nosler load data). I referenced your numbers. The only thing I added were the cartridges that would match your velocities.

And before people blow me up here I don't think these are comparable cartridges. Just closer ballistics in your example than I would expect.

This is why I ask questions.

Apologize if I offended anyone. I'm not the expert & thats why I ask questions. But you guy's are telling about a gun that you haven't shot.

A throated .264 Win should launch a 150 Sierra at close to 3400fps...do not understand how the short action .25 is standing up well...@ less than 3000fps with a 131

No offense taken, I just wasnt sure what you were saying or were confused about. I'm no expert, I know a little. There are many here who know much more.

"Confused". Possibly. I've used a 25.06 & 264 for about 40 years. The Army decided I should be a sniper & a weapons instructor. Shoot a 338 past 2000 yards.
I guess "confused" works.

My 264 runs that bullet just past 2900. Wondering if I'm missing something. Sure hope this doesn't **** a bunch of people off.

Has anyone run 150s at close to 3400 in a 264 win mag? That's over 300 fps faster than the published max with 140s. If so what is the set up?
