I just purchased a Havak pro hunter PH1 rifle in 6.5 PRC. I am going to mount a vortex razor 3-18x50 on it. I ordered it with their muzzle brake. I have never shot a muzzle brake before and am hearing conflicting opinions on them. What is everyone's take on them? What do you think of the rifle, caliber, and scope combo?

Thanks

Hey Rhust. Nice to see you over here. I answered you over on SH in favor of the muzzle brake. Since you already have it ordered, do a side by side comparison. If you don't like it, spin it off. I think you'll like the ability to recover from recoil and spot your hits with the muzzle brake on.

They can work extremely well for recoil reduction but I have moved away from them due to the massive noise they create. I've had too many abrupt game encounters were I don't have time to apply hearing protection.

First of all welcome to the forum. Lots of good people on here. Sounds like a nice set you have. As far as the brake. I like them. Try it and see what you think, be sure to wear hearing protection and if others are around when shooting (wife children) see that they are protected also, hearing protection or out of harms way. My hunch is that you will find you shoot better groups with the brake than without. Enjoy your new setup, have fun and shoot safe.
