My buddy has a 300 win. mag that he wants to hunt long range with. I told him about the leupold VX-3i LRP, Vortex pst 2 and Nightforce SHV. I do have a leupold and zeiss conquest scopes on my rifles but they're for varmint hunting.

I haven't had a chance to look through the nightforce and vortex. He wants something that he can dial with at longrange and something that is robust.

Just wondering what you guys would recommend for around that price range. Is there one that stands above the others.

I have a 5-20 SHV and have never had an issue with it on my 30-378 it always returns to zero and has dialed reliable up to 68. It is heavy but it takes a beating and still always works

If reliability and robust are REAL concerns forget the novelty of everything other than a used NXS. For close to 1,000 that's all I would even consider. Over that price point and you have some other choices.

Ok thanks guys, I'll look into those scopes.

Forgot to mention my buddy told me that he talked to a guy that worked with swat and that he uses millet lrs-1.

Anyone have any experiences with that line of scopes?

I had a millet LRS-1 on a 204 ruger for a while. Its a decent budget scope. The glass isn't that great and the tracking was hit or miss for me. I got rid of it and put a Sig Whiskey 5 5-25x52 on it.

I really like the leupold VX5HD line. I have them on most of my big game rifles. You can pick them up for $700-$1000 if you shop around. The glass is amazing - tracks well. I have the 3-15x56. The VX6/VX6HD lines are nice too.
