My next scope is going to be a leupold. Looking at a VX 6 hd or a VX 5 hd. Is the VX 6 worth the extra money? Only difference I see is a little more power range, locking windage, and a lighted reticle with level. Am I missing something? Anyone have both?
Thanks

I have both. You've pretty much nailed the differences. The VX-6HD also comes with alumina covers and a throw lever. The glass is the same in both.

So for the $1,000 question. Is the 6 worth the extra $.
You can git the vx5hd's reticle illuminated at leupold's custom shop for $100. That would still be $500 cheaper than the vx6hd, if you shop around good you can find them at $750 or $850. HINT I got mine from the Big Supply Shop for $771 with the impact 29 moa reticle.

Is $100 just to add illumination, and if so, where did you get this information? I actually called the custom shop earlier this week because I wanted to know pricing on changing from a duplex to TMOA on a VX-6HD, which already has illumination. Leupold quoted me $275 to do this.

I called them at just about the end of last year and they told me about $100, you are talking about changing reticles, not just illuminating them.

Thank you- I didn't realize that would be such a difference in price, and had assumed it would be more to add illumination.

I think they are charging you $100 for the reticle and the rest for work, to change reticles it looks like they have to take all of the back lenses out to git to the reticle.

I have the VX-6 and a VX-5HD and can't tell the difference when I'm looking through them. The VX-5HD does have the illuminated firedot which I like when hunting coyotes in the evening.
