I am looking to buy a new rifle from my local gunsmith in bc Canada. I am considering a Christensen summit titanium thumbhole stock as I have 2 older Christensen customs that shoot well and I really like. I also have a ridgeline in 6.5 prc that shoots good also. I was also looking at a Gunwerks climbr with ti action and carbonbarrel in probably 7lrm as the caliber. Another option would be to get them to build me a complete custom with a lone peak titanium action, either a proof or a polar carbon barrel and some type of carbon stock and I was thinking I would go 7lrm in this route too. Price would be similar for all 3 options at about 8-9k cdn. I want to have a a finished weight of about 8-8.5 pds with scope. I will be using the rifle for long range hunting and target shooting out to around 1000yards. What would you guys suggest?

Personally I would look at a different 7mm simply because of the proprietary Gunwerks brass. Availability is spotty and the price is always high. Last time I talked to them about brass the replies were shall we say less than helpful.

As for your options, being in Canada makes things a bit different so I'd talk to my smith about which comes with the most bombproof warrant and guarantee.

If I were building a new 7mm today I'd probably go with either a straight 7mm-375 Ruger wildcat simply necking the .375R down or go with the 28 Nosler so as to not be dependent on Gunwerks for their brass.

Well if you decide to go with the 7lrm I have some new brass I'll sell you.....It's junk, but it's new. My 7lrm is being taken apart as we speak, I sold it to a good friend, it's going to be a 7x300 win mag soon.....I hope it's soon anyway...... someday it will be a 7x300 win mag.

Im also in Canada, I went with a ridgeline in 28 nosler, It shoots great, Brass is easier to get then 7LRM. Another good option is a fierce edge titanium , or ct edge half the price of a gunwerks and just as accurate, Fit and finish is great too. I have one showing up on Friday in 338 Lapua. I lloked at one of the clymbrs in 28 nosler at great north precision in Kelowna last week and it only had a 22 inch barrel which seemed a little useless in such a large capacity cartridge and I wasn't very impressed with the action, It seamed a bit rough.

My Gunwerks Mountainx (same as Clymer) is being changed into a 28 Nosler from 7lrm as we speak. I also know two other people with a 7lrm. One has already re-barreled in 7RM and then other is going to change to 28 Nosler. Don't waste your money and time with 7lrm. Brass sucks. Your better of with a 7RM and the availability of brass. As for the gun, its nice but nothing a quality smith can't build for less money. Also, from my experience, and the two people I mentioned experiences with Gunwerks customers service, its not what it should be for what you spend on one of their guns. In the past month I was in conversation with them about doing the re-barrel. They gave a quote and I was going to have it done even though is was high. I had a few question I wanted answered before I sent it to them and their rep. never responded to my email. I'm having it done by a quality local smith for half the price. I have called in the past with questions. Left messages because no one answered. No one ever returns the call.

My buddy just bought a Summit and it sure looks outstanding. Shoots great also. It only weighs 51/2 to begin with so it will be far less than 8 when scoped.

You might want to look at Fierce Firearms? They are in Canada and make a pretty nice looking rifle. Here's one that I really like!
Gunwerks just wants too much for their rifles IMO. You can have one tailor made from
a top smith for a lot less. Heck there's a VERY good guy here in Ky. that if you round up the parts. He will put it together for less than 700 bucks!

I don't think you can go wrong with either the Christensen Summit or the Gunwerks, if I already had 2 Christensens on the rack I would try the Gunwerks to so I would know first hand how one would perform.

Thanks for the reply. Is it hard to get good dies for a 7x300 win? What type velocity do you expect? I have some good .300 win brass as I recently rechambered a .300 win to 28nosler.

Use redding FL 300 win bushing dies with a few smaller bushings to neck down, 7mm expander ball. Depending on reamer, may need to neck trim for proper chamber clearance. Velocity is usually 50-75fps slower than 28 nosler on top end, but using 5-6gr less powder. ADG makes very good brass for 300win as does peterson. WAY cheaper than 28 nosler. However more vendors will be coming to market with 28 nosler brass this spring.

you don't need special dies, you just need a 300 win mag bushing die with 7mm bushings. I use a regular 7mm fl sizing die to neck down the brass the first time because the busing die doesn't quite get to the neck shoulder junction, there is varying opinions about this, but I haven't had any problem necking down in one step.

I'm running the 175 eld-x at 3150 out of a 28" barrel, I ran into pressure at 3200. I've used norma and sig brass, they both seem to work pretty good. I had to back off a couple grains with the sig, but it seems to be holding up a little better.

Buying ready to go, and available in Canadia (lol) Christensen or Fierce. Own both in 300 Win Mag. (Also have a CA in 338 Lapua)

If you're sold on 7mm for your purposes and reasons, I'd rather see you do a 7-300. It's just simpler. But for that you need a builder.

It will run close with the 7mm STW which is my favorite. Dies are not hard to come up with from PT&G or Whiddon. It's becoming fairly popular so you can probably get hornady or redding custom dies for it now as well.

Thanks for the reply. I don't really want another 28 nosler as I have one and a 7mm rem mag also you could say I like the .284s!
