Need bullet suggestions! 300rum

I've been using the 200 AB in my RUM for about 6 years now. I have no complaints with this combo and have taken coyotes to elk with it. I run them about 3180 w/ retumbo and have shot deer as close as 40 yds with no major explosions or bullet failures. I don't see myself changing until the barrel gives up.
That's because the AB IS A true hunting bullet, unlike the ELDX/M, Berger's, Sierras, etc. All they are are simple cup and draw bullets-hit something hard and the jacket and lead separate and then you have lead and copper flying all over the place inside your game. I'd never hunt dangerous game with any of those. I want a bullet that will stay together and that pretty much leaves out everything but bonded bullets, A frames/Partitions, and monos for me. I've seen instances with petals breaking off on some monos that are concerning to me also. I want the highest BC I can get but the bullet has to perform without risk of blowing up and destroying too much meat with minimal lead contamination. These are my requirements for hunting big game. I know some will disagree and even get a little butt hurt but thats just my opinion.

All bullets of every construction, have a velocity range that they perform best in. In the case of the 190ABLR the RUM stresses it. It is an impressive killer on Whitetails. I like it because of the way it kills. I will use this bullet again next year. I like it well enough that if I went out West again, I would work up a load for the 210gr version of the same thing. The OP had different results. Very small exit wounds. Mine were impressive to gross depending on the amount of bone hit. Didn't see the amimals, but either the bullets exploded and exits were caused by bone or fragments, or they didn't expand for some reason. I wish someone else that used this bullet in a RUM would comment. I have no idea if the OP's results or mine are typical. I like the bullet, he doesn't. I started using it this year and have only shot 4 animals with this bullet and the futherest was about 500. Would like to hear from someone who has used this combo twice this far.

I shoot the 190 Berger through my RUM. This year my rifle killed 5 antelope, one mule deer buck, one whitetail buck, and one bull elk and all of these animals dropped completely dead exactly where they stood except for the elk which was hit a little bit low and back from 667 yards. The shooter had to put another follow up shot in it, but it only made it about 30 yards from where it was standing on the first shot.

So, I've never had to blood trail anything shot with my RUM. I do shoot the Hornady Precision Hunter in my .300 win mag and they allow a nice blood trail on deer sized game, but I've never had to follow blood for more than 65 paces with it.

Ok I'm shooting a Remington sendero. Im shooting the 190gr nosler ab long range. Accuracy wise I can't complain at all, it will touch holes at 100. But the wound channel is very unimpressive!
We killed 5 deer with this load this season ranging from 200-700 yards. All of them only went 20 yards max but the entrance and exit hole was horrible. 4 of the 5 were heart shots and the bullet entered the leg (breaking it) but still barely an exit wound...and little blood trail.
My only concern is what it one of those shots wouldn't of been as good, how hard would it be to find the deer or would we even loose the deer with the lack of wound channel and blood trail

I'm looking for suggestions for different bullets and loads to try. I'm looking for something that is accurate out to 800yards and has a good exit wound! I'm used to exit wounds the size of a baseball or more from my RUM's

Thanks
Cj
I think you'd be pretty happy with either the 215 or the 230 Berger Hybrid OTM

Here's the only two deer I killed using the N190ABLR in my 300 RUM. MV = 3200+ FPS.

Both shots were at 70 yards.

Doe was a DRT shot. Exit side showing in pic.
Buck was a 30 yard run after the shot. Entrance showing on the buck (bullet did not exit).
Based on these two deer alone, I'd say the N190ABLR is on softer side (after all, Nosler does state expansion down to 1300 FPS).

If I were picking a bullet I would lean toward the Barnes 178 LRX. From what I have read here the Hammers would also be a good choice. To me these all copper bullets just make good sense. I shoot the TTSX out of my 300Wby at 3240 and get great results. That is 180 TTSXI should mention.

Mirrors my results fairly well

Are there any other proven long range loads/bullets for the rum? I would like to play around with it this year to find my absolute best load for my gun

Thanks guys
I use the cutting edge MTH 190S with a stiff load of RETUMBO. This hits 3400fps, and dime sized groups out of a standard weight hunting rifle.

Struck the front shoulder on a huge elk this year 570 yards, the bullet turned both shoulders into gravel sized bone, penetrated the heart and the animal died on the spot. This was the first cutting edge bullet I recovered, 80% weight retention.

These are no where close to my results
First doe is exit side 200 yards exit hole should be right by my gun
First buck pic is exit hole quartering away at 400 hit bone
Buck with me in pic was 150 quarting to, hit him in the neck and came out the side showing
Last doe is my buddies at 700 hit the close shoulder low and blew out the neck

It would appear all 190gr ABLR's are not the same, unless you are not starting them in excess of 3200 fps.

Interesting your opinion on what you expect to see from the bullets. For us we feel that if the petals are not shed, that would be less than desirable. We want to see full deformation asap with shed petals so the bullet will track straight and not slow down too fast as it passed through the vitals. The slower the bullet gets as it passes through the animal the less damage it does. No bullet magically maintains vel as it passes through and then suddenly stops on the far side. We expect our bullet to shed the petals and take on the form of a flat front, kinda like a bullet shot backwards or a the form of a flat front dangerous game bullet, then pass through the animal on a straight line displacing soft tissue perpendicular to the direction of travel.

The other aspect to bullet deformation was being able to control how consistent deformation or retained weight would be throughout the range of impact vel. This proved to be very difficult. Not all coppers are created equal and none of them were designed to be bullets.

Through testing many diff alloys we were able to find one that does this consistently. When we found this alloy we saw dramatic results on game compared to others that we had tried.

Exellent information on your bullets Steve I never knew how you guys wanted yours to work. My assumption had always been that they were to perform like the Barnes TSX. If I am ever able to find some I will now not be disappionted if the petals come off.

I load for a 300 Sendero ultra mag and 3 Win mags. My hunting bullets of choice are always bonded bullets, mostly 200 grain AB's, sometimes a 180 Scirocco (although I find the scirocco a little finicky at times). In fact I use AccuBonds 95% of the time in all my hunting rifles.

Same here I must be envisioning the Barnes. So you're saying the petals breaking off is what you want? I think Barnes has the right idea but I have not used either. Steve do you have any videos or other data that would depict that your idea of bullet performance is a sound one? I've heard some on here like your bullets, but I'm just not seeing how losing your expansion diameter would be a good thing at any point as the bullet travels thru an animal?
