Strangely enough I've been there. Used to have a friend that lived not far away over near Royal City.
You can get some pretty long shots there on the eastern slope.
Never did any big game hunting there but we spent some serious time harassing the Chukars, pheasant, Huns, and Quail. Spent a fair bit of time hunting The Quilomene.

So, I guess I will narrow down my search to a 3-18 scope, but should I still be looking for a 50 objective diameter or can I go lower? What would be "recommended"?

The bigger objective will always pay you big dividends particularly in low/poor light.
Take a hard look at the Leupold VX5 3-15x50 and VX6 3-18x50. Great glass for the money.

Most definitely. This area has lots of open area that provides opportunity for long shots. The quilomene is a great area!!

Ok, so that would be a nice thing to have for my endeavors. I noticed that the price skyrocketed with this magnification versus the 4-16. Why would this be the case?

Yep. I used to spend about 3-4 weeks there every fall. We'd hunt there and Keith had access to a lot of private land while I could get us onto Ft. Lewis and Yakima.
Good times. Did see some pretty impressive deer a time or two.

Better quality all the way aroud plus the 5x and 6x Magnifiers are much more expensive to produce.
Check Ebay and chekd the LRH classifieds, you can find some very good deals on both.

My partner and I both bought Leupold Vx6 3-18x. He went with the 44-I went with the 50mm.
Frankly I'd choose based on the best deal. Some individualization in the equation.

Small world. Yes, there are definitely a few nice bucks still roaming. Now, I hate to throw another question your way, but could I use a 4-16x50? Would it make hunting at 100-600 yards difficult? I say this because I would like the flexibility of being able to expand my shooting distance.

No, it wouldn't be a problem it's just that Leupold doesn't make a 4-16. I had real serious problems with 3 out of the five Vortex Viper PST's I bought including 2 4-16x50's. Neither would hold zero right out of the box.
When you spend that kind of money on a scope and it's busted when it gets to you it's a pretty big let down.
The Leupold costs more but I decided for the better scope overall and never having to worry about reliability it was worth it.
Eventually I'll probably replace the scopes on all of my remaining LR rigs with either the 3-18x50 or 4-24x52's.

Ok, that makes sense. That's a shame those Vortex scopes had issues. I guess I may just need to stop avoiding it and get ready to dig into my wallet
