Hey everyone!

So a buddy and I will end up in WY elk area 66 (between Thermopolis and Burlington somewhere) this coming Monday (Nov 19th).

Never been to that particular area, but still have my tag in my pocket and looking to fill the freezer!

Anybody willing to throw out any hints as to where an elk could be found on a one day excursion?

Any help is greatly appreciated...
Thanks in advance!

What type is your tag ?
If it's a bull your after you can only do that in the Bighorn County portion of 66. Most landowners will let ya on to shoot a cow. If ya don't have a hunting app like OnX, I'd get it. There is BLM land that borders a lot of the rancher's river bottom stuff. The elk usually head back up the draws into the BLM after feeding in the fields.
I have not hunted any of that area yet, just a lot of glassing and scouting in the summer for potential trapping areas

Also, as you may know we got a bunch of snow coming to the basin over the weekend. They are calling for a foot or better on both ranges.

We live just south of the area, and have hunted there a couple of times....with no success. But, we didn't hunt hard, and only a day or two!

There are a few BLM access roads on the north side of County Road 30 (Otto/Burlington Road), that can get you to public land. There are a ranch or two (can't remember the names) on the Meeteetse (West) end of the road that will let you hunt (cows) on their property. You can hunt the river bottoms and their fields, but the vehicle must stay on ranch roads, so you'll be packing meat out to the vehicle!

There are several BLM roads of of the Gooseberry Road, that can take you north, toward County Road 30. Though, you can't get all the way to 30(and the river bottom area) ....private property stops your northward progress. There's a lot of near real estate, but few elk....most will be near the river and ranches!

Not much help....but, it's all I got! memtb
