Fluting a barrel after it had been threaded

Hello,

I purchased a new Bartlein 30 cal 1:10 sendero barrel based on the input from a local smith that the barrel could be fluted after the rifle was assembled & 0 degrees established.

I'm sure someone has done this previously.

I am more accustomed to barrels being relieved by the barrel manufacturer & supplied as fluted blanks.

My question is,
How repeatable is this?

Was it a fluke that the previous barrels shot as well after fluting, or is this common provided the machinist who flutes it knows what he is doing?

Thanks

I've had two worked on after the fact. One was wrought iron fluted by Long Rifles Inc and the other was a fluted Bartlien that I had tapered down to build a lighter "carry" rifle. Both barrels are extremely accurate.

Mods,

Would it be possible to change the title of this thread to my 300 WM Build?

I've got multiple questions & want to try to centralize things.

My 300 WM runs the 215s just fine in a standard mag box, if you want a DBM I would recommend Badger Ordinance bottom metal and AI mags .

@bigngreen,

The @Broz 300WM Reamer, besides the 215 Berger, is there other solid options that are recommended for this Reamer with 1:10 twist 26-28" tubes?

I personally do not see any reason to run something other than the 215 compared to other known options. I am experimenting with the new 200 SMK to see its lethality but I do not see an advantage to the bigger bullets until way out there. The new SMK has a very short bearing surface so it will fit fine with this reamer. Again I am just experimenting with it so I can not recommend it yet. If you do desire to run the Hornadys I would probably look at adding some freebore.

How does the Nosler 210 Accubond perform?

I've had solid experiences with the smaller Accubonds & I am curious if they would be a reasonable projectile if I run out of Bergers, Bergers on BO, etc...

I have never used Noslers.

They shot pretty well for me in all three .300wm's and 2 of the .300Rum's.

They tend to hold together much better than the Hornady ELD's which is a big thing for me.

Thank You.

I've been hoarding 200 grain accubonds from my previous 300 WM & was hoping they'd do good in this application.

Certainly overkill, but not being married to only 1 bullet is nice.
