300 wby load

looking to see what the most common load everybody likes is. Just bought a new weatherby vanguard first lite in 300 wby to replace the one I sold a while back. Has a 26 inch #2 barrel with a muzzle brake. I bought a couple boxes of factory weatherby 165 gr bullets to break the barrel in with, going along with what weatherby recommends. It shot them pretty well, 1 1/4" groups or so at 100 yards.

I had some bullets leftover that I had loaded for my other 300 wby I had and it didn't seem to like them very well, 2" was the best 3 shots I had at 100 yards.

Fed 215 primer
Remington brass
87.5 gr H1000
180 gr nosler ballistic tip

(I could drive tacks at 100 yards with this load in my old rifle)

I have some 185 Berger vld's I want to try out also.

What's everyone like?

cart, my grandson's 300 Wby Vanguard likes the heavier 210 Berger VLDH with Nosler brass, 215M's and H1000. Not all rifles shoot the same loads well. Perhaps the 185's will be great. We went with the 210's to take advantage of the 300 Wby powder charge. Good luck

Yeah I know they don't all like the same loads but usually they're not far off from each other.

Thanks, I thought about the heavier 210s also and will probably try them out depending on what happens with the 185

Cograts on getting another one 26bbl nice ,I owned a older VG 24bbl ,changed out the trigger for a Timney,is all i did mine hung 3/4-1moa feed it more rl/22 then anything got great speeds 165,168, 175,180s never shot the hvys,saw no need , imr 4831 is a great powder as is imr 7828,another great powder to try is RL/26, sold mine to my 1st cousin,& reload for his y brother Barnes 165's only recovered one from this yr and that was the Barnes LRX ,reload what you like your rifle will tell you what it likes, those 185s sound nice , thks Enjoy !!!

You're on the right path with the H1000, I love the 200 Accubond in mine.

I found RE25, H1000 and Retumbo best with 180gr/200gr pills in my 300Bee. Mine had a 28" Hart barrel.
I don't see any reason in using pills lighter than 180gr in ANY of the 30 Magnums.

I ran Rem brass in mine, when these became difficult to get, I would form either 300 H&H or 375 H&H into 300Bee.

I don't plan on shooting the lighter bullets, I just bought the factory 165s because for some reason they were 20 bucks a box cheaper than the 180s when I bought them

I have a Mark V Terramark with a #3 barrel and 26" tube + Accubrake. The 2 loads that have worked for me are:

1.) Berger 210 VLD , Norma Brass (Neck Sized), Fed 215, Retumbo. OAL 3.693 [3025 FPS / No Pressure, grouped well]
2.) Berger 215 Hybrid , Norma Brass (Neck Sized), Fed 215, H-1000. OAL 3.705 [2985 FPS / No Pressure, 0.25 moa @100 and shot .5 moa @ 800]

My rig was throwing the 215's north of 3075 during load development, but I"ll take 0.25 moa and a little less velocity any day.

H1000 just seems to work in the 300 Weatherby. I don't think it is safe by any means but I know a fellow that does not even weight his powder charge he just fills a case with H1000 and seats a 180 gr Sierra making a compressed load and says it shoots better than factory ammo. He is a bean field hunter and he brings in nice bucks so it must work.

Try Berger 215 Hybrids and IMR 7977 in Nosler brass with Fed 215M primers.
