question--

anyone know the real differences between these 2 bullets as far as make up (not measurements as I can get that info on berger's site) - looks like the f-open has a longer bearing surface than the std hybrid

I read the whole kit and caboodle on hunting with the 30 cal hybrid target bullets but was wondering if anyone has used either of the 7mm hybrid target bullets for hunting yet?

should be able to push anything in the 175-185 range to 2900 in a 26" 7rm right?

still not sure the heavies give much advantage in this caliber, but just crunching numbers right now (the 160 class bullets seem to be the best compromise for drop vs retained energy in my eyes, but keeping my mind open)

I use the 180 Hybrids in my 7 RM exclusively. Every deer and elk taken has been an instant face plant .

I have been researching the new 184 as well. When talking to AB, who designed the bullet, it has the same jacket thickness and make up as the other Hybrid designs. Since it's thicker, it won't expand as much as a vld at greater distances. I am
Building a 7 saum which would push them about 2920. It will be my 600 and under rifle which should give adequate expansion.

the 184 has a shorter boat tail, and shorter nose than the 180hyb and the longest bearing surface of the 175E, 180 vld, 180 hyb and 184 --therefore thy might be just a bit slower than the others but possibly a tad more accurate? with the shorter nose than the 180 hyb (almost the same nose as the 175 hybrid) they might be easier to get close to the lads in shorter mag lengths

here is what berger says about the new bullet "The 7mm 184gr F-Open bullet is ideal for loading into 7-08 Rem, 284 Win, 7mm SAUM, 7mm RUM, 7mm Rem Mag and other popular 7mm cartridges."

I know they are not hunting bullets, but I know some target bullets work for hunting

anyone loaded/shot the 184 in a 7 rem mag yet?

We nearly lost a 327 class elk a couple years ago with the 180 hybrid at 611 yards! Pencil in and out. I would use the 175 elite Hunter.
Had this happen back in 2014 with a 168 VLD in my 7mmRM at around 300 yards. Luckily she was calm, and it hit the CNS, so she just flopped right over and never moved again. Got lucky on that one...Always checked my tips ever since to make sure.

Last year I took 2 deer and an antelope with the 180 gr hybrid from maybe 80 to 325 yards. 7 SAUM starting at 2900 fps. 2 DRT's and the longer range whitetail went maybe 20 yds. Not a perfect hit. All bullets exited with large wound channels. I check all of my tips! That is a MUST DO for the Bergers. Seem to me to work very well in my situations.

Sometimes the hollow point of Berger bullets can be pinched closed during manufacturing, those individual bullets will act like a FMJ on game. It's a wise practice to check the tips of bullets you intend to hunt with.

good to know.....been shooting bergers since before they became popular...probably 20 years now. Never did this. But never had a problem either....but have always used "hunting" bullets for hunting.. I have never shot at an animal with a "target" bullet or one that wasn't specifically listed as "for hunting"

Another thread a week or so ago talked about "drilling" the tips of bergers....wondered about that. Anyone care to expand on "drilling the tips". Hope I'm not hijacking the thread. If I am tell me and I start a new thread
