375h&h

A lot of good, new bullets out there. In either .375 I'd use the 248 Hammer as an elk load. Might even use it on the big bears, but likely would move up a bit to their 270 grain bullet.
The 300 grain Swift A-Frame is also in factory H&H Federal ammo. No issue with Partitions just sometimes availability on anything gets sketchy.

Thanks Capt RB, I don't have the funds to buy many rifles. I I could use the lighter loads that would be nice. With your experience would a .306 be a elk cartridge? My Father shot a lot of moose with a.200 grain bullet. I don't know if that would be a cartridge for longer distance. I live in Rochester Mn and we need to use slug guns. I am truly a novice when it comes to rifles. I truly respect your opinions, you are a very knowledgeable man. My father passed away 33 years ago and I don't have anyone to gain the knowledge from.
Thanks again, you are truly the best in broading my decisions.
God Bless,
David

308? There are better cartridges for sure , however within the envelope of 1800fps 1500#s of energy you'd be hard pressed not to find a good load in a box marked 308. Your range will just be shorter than some other cartridges. Stuff you wouldn't think of that may shoot in your 308 are great elk rounds like the Remington hog hunter load. It's a 168 triple shock barnes bullet. Nosler loads a 165 accubond. This list can go on for a long way.
I would opt to contact Steve at Hammer bullets to work up a load for your gun. Buy as many boxes as he will sell you and get the load from him. Then have someone like Copper Creek load you more as you need them. You would have the advantages of reloading a premium bullet optimized for your rifle.

Buy the 375 H&H and use for your Alaska trip and for elk. It is a great elk cartridge. That cartridge has been around for a hundred years for a reason. In Africa it is used on dangerous game and plains game. Ammunition is readily available anywhere you go.

I also used the Trijicon 2.5-10 on my 375 H&H in Alaska and it worked well. Whichever gun or caliber you choose I would have a synthetic stock on it and a SS or weather resistant barrel/ action. Alaska weather can test your equipment.
