Rifle Build 35 whelen light weight

Man, I just got an email from wildcat composites, the only barrel contour they offer is oversize magnum which I think will be a good amount larger than this pac nor #1 profile. I have not sent the money in for the stock. I'm now thinking that I should look elsewhere? Maybe MPI? I'd like it to look clean with a nice fit and finish.

Be careful of MPI, That company broke up and the daughter of the founder is trying to get it started again and not doing a very good job. She shipped a stock to me instead of my rifle. My rifle has been "going to ship next week" for over a month.
 
Manners will set you up right. you may also be able to find a mcmillan that'll work. call either and they'll set you up with something that'll work perfect. they are all very helpful and will not steer you wrong.
 
My you are fussy! ;) The difference between a 'magnum contour' and a pacnor #1 is .050" diameter. I don't think .025" extra barrel clearance could do any harm.
 
Man I didn't realize it is only .050 difference. That's nothing!

I ordered the Manners EH-6 in lefty with the elite clear web finish. They will inlet the stock to perfectly match the pac nor #1 contour specs. I thought that was pretty cool.

From my estimates the rifle will weigh right at 7lbs without a scope.

2nd on kampfeld - i had him do quite a bit of bolt work for me earlier this year and it was fantastic. he will be able to tell you what can be thinned, trimmed, and skeletonized to save weight. i saved 1oz on my bolt with the work he did.

Yea I'm planning on sending him all the parts I've accumulated for the build to work his magic.

I think maybe a 358 Winchester short action or a 350 rem mag. could get you to your weight limit or close to it.
 
I just weighted my ruger #1 35 whelen with a older burris 2x7(heavy) scope and ruger rings 8.6 lbs and my rem 7600 pump with out scope, rings or base 6.6 lbs. weighted on bath room scales, weights should be close. both rifles will shoot close to 1" groups with the right loads.

I have a Ruger m77mkll in 35 whelen. It has factory iron sights and the boat paddle stock, with aleupold vxll 2-7 (long version) it weighs 8#s with light weight sling. It's very accurate.
