Ultra Light Stock Recommendation

Just chiming in to learn some great information. Thank you all

I can recommend MPI. I have a carbon fiber and kevlar MPI stock. It is bedded and pillarded, with sling studs and recoil pad for a long action sporter weight barrel. The stock is 20 oz. exactly. incredibly stiff and accurate.

I had Pac-Nor barrel duplicate the Weatherby Mark V six lug ultralight barrel at 26" instead of 24". It was fluted by Twisted barrel. At the same time I also ordered a Christiansen 26" carbon wrapped McGowan barrel. Both weighed forty ounces.

I bought a b/c mountain rifle stock, and had to increase the barrel channel...275$ or so.....and it packs around fine....
I like the looks of the wildcat stocks...would gladly pay a little more for better stock with less flex....

Thankyou for the contact info. He makes a stock for Ruger tang saftey. I need one. And the price is kind too

I called MPI and the number is out of service. Did they go out of business?

What happens to rifles in her possession now?

I believe the owner of MPI died. His daughter was already doing most of the work before he died. She finished all the jobs then moved and is starting up her own since she was the one that made all the molds etc.

Thats the story I heard anyway. I talked to her awhile back and she was just moving into her own shop.

That is also 1/2 moa accurate contact melvin forbes at new ultra light arms. For about three thousand bucks you can get a 308 or 6.5 that will weigh six pounds with scope sling and a full mag. They also come in left hand. I have a couple and all the ones I have shot will print one hole three shot groups. Melvin reallly knows how to build the ultimate light weight . His guns are perfectly balanced and shoot welll off hand, unlike most ultra lights.

I have 3 McMillan Hunters Edge and 1 Manners EH and both are awesome. Obviously the HE is my favorite.

i have an EH1 on the way. manners is local to me so i go with them.

You might take a peek at the old High tech Specialties, now owned by Legendary Arms Work I believe?

I have several of Melvin Forbes rifles. The rifles weigh as advertised and are accurate but took a bit of work to optimize accuracy. One of the most accurate rifles I have is a Melvin Forbes barreled action in 300 WM in a MPI stock. The rifle with 3 rounds in the mag, 4 rounds on the stock, rings and bases, sling and a 2.5 x 8 Leupold weighs 6 lbs 8 oz .... and kicks like a mule! If I wanted a light weight accurate rifle for mountain hunting I would strongly recommend a google search for the Fieldcraft Rifle manufactured by Barrett. There are several detailed write ups by a couple hunting mags on line that make informative reading. Cabela's carries the line at a cost of about $1800 if I remember correctly. I personally do not own one ..... yet.
