I am a retired mining manager, I have enjoyed the best of hunting since I was 14 years old. Hunts resulted in numerous bears, over 28 bull elk (they lived next to our farm land in forest reserve land).
Also hunted deer and moose.
I have shot most of the various magnum rifles 375 H&H down and numerous others, as a hobby bought and sold rifles.
Most of the elk were shot in heavy timber with 7mm rem. mag, 300 savage, some with 300 short mag. However most were shot with 270 win. rifles.
Long or short range shooting requires proper shot placement and a good bullet above all else.
My now favorite mag. is a Browning x bolt 300 H&H. Favorite non mags are 65x55 sweed, 270 tikka ,
270 x bolt white gold short mag. 308 sako Bavarian grizzly. SOO maqny guns so little time I will soon be 72 years old.
