Faster 6.5 Creedmoor

I like the 6.5 prc at least i like what i hear so for and i will build one as soon as i can find a reliable dbm and mag system once again thanks everyone alot of food for thought

The 3200 fps was just a number to aim at reality shows around 3050. I reload with h4350 now i was curious to get some input on what powder might be a bit faster. I will look for the most accurate load but i also want velocity. I know there are better calibers out there like the 6.5 prc and i have thought about building one but not 100% sold on it yet

There are certainly faster cartridges but that doesn't make them better. I bought a 6.5cr for my son to use on deer and at the range, and a side benefit is that I get to play with it whenever I want. It is a joy to shoot...very accurate and essentially no recoil (it is braked). I myself may use it for deer more than I thought. It is a great round.

I get 3000 FPS with a 28 inch barrel and reloder 26. If you want 3200 the Creedmoor is not going to do it. Going to need a magnum, 26 nosler or 6.5 300 Weatherby are the screamers.

My prc is being assembled with Mesa m5 dbm using a wsm accurate mag. Smith tells me they feed prc very well, we shall see.

I would personally be quite pleased if I could have an accurate load @3200 with a 124 hammer

Yea, it seems to me you have the funds, just buy a McWhorter 6.5 Weatherby or 6.5 SLC.

Leave your Creedmoor at 2650fps for your kids sake. Just MO

One of my loads is for a 6.5WSM, 127 LRX at exactly 3200 fps and consistent .3-.4 MOA. Same load I've been using for years. There is lots of velocity left in the loading, but 3200 is where the accuracy is. Have shot lots of hogs here in CA with it and a blood trail depends on how the animal is shot. Big boar through the shoulders equals no blood, the plate closes up after the bullet exits. Big through the heart equals tons of blood, same for a sow. Shoot one stem to stern, like in the shoulder and out the last rib equals no blood trail.

How come no one uses the .264 Winchester Magnum. Shouldn't that give you
guys the velocity and bullet weight you need in a 6.5 cartridge?

Think Winchester and Remington are the only two factory rifles available. And they are just 9 twist as that is the SAAMI spec for the cartridge. 140 Bullets really need an 8 twist. Now, go custom and non of that matters.

I have a 28" 6.5SLR and run a 127LRX pretty hot. I get 3060fps with a stiff charge of H4350. I don't think RL26 will get you another 150fps.

My younger daughter took a good muley buck at 637 with it. In my opinion, that is pretty close to where it runs out of steam for deer sized game. At least for.my personal criteria of 1800fps/1000 ft/lbs on target. With that said, the bullet hit the onside shoulder, broke it, shattered a vertebra, and exited the offside shoulder. Exit wound was about dime size. Deer dropped on the spot.

If you want 3200, going to have to jump up the case capacity. 6.5-.284 might not even get you there. Try 6.5-06 (or AI even), 6.5 SAUM, 6.5 SS, .264 WM.
