Hey guys im planning on building a 6 creed in the near future, it will be on a savage short action. Planning on it being a long range target and smaller big game to varmint rifle. Was thinking a 26-28in 1in8 and sending 105-110gr bullets. Probably run hornady brass for price and availability. I was just curious if guys would chime in with what combos they run and the success their having with them. Open to suggestions foresure. I appreciate any feedback.

Ugh. Go with good brass. Lapua, Alpha, or ADG. I hate Hornady brass. I went with Lapua for my 6CM.

You bullet weight range is good. 105 Hybrid, 105 HVLD, 110 SMK, 115 HVLD are all good choices for steel and deer sized game. I will also be shooting the 95 TMK for coyotes.

26-28" barrel is OK. I went 24" to make it a bit more balanced and handy. Even 20-22" would be good for a steel and moderate range deer/long range varmint rifle. What barrel/contour are you thinking? Make sure you have enough twist, I would go a bit faster for the 110 and up bullets. I went 1:7.5" in mine for that reason.

Ive had pretty good luck with hornady brass. If I was match shooting it might be different. The three rifles I consistently shoot it in are all well under .5moa. My 300wm and 6.5creedmoor are both consistently .2-.3moa with it. My grendel is consistently .4-.5 with it also. I am mainly thinking 105s but 110 sierras caught my eye too. I like a bit more barrel for the little extra performance. Other than ARs every gun I have built has been 26+ inches. Barrel is was thinking atleast magnum contour or heavy Palma. Something sturdy but not crazy heavy for a 6mm.

With respect,

It sounds like you have pretty much made up your mind as to the basic build. Your description above is more of a budget build, especially considering the dual purpose.

I try not to build any dual purpose rifles as you generally have compromises which leave one or the other to suffer slightly in the pursuit of two or more objectives. But folks have made it work before and will continue the practice as long as budgets get in the way. Others make claims that their dual purpose rifles shoot as good as any single purpose custom rifle.

The only two things left to decide are the stock and the trigger. If you want a dual purpose rifle then something along the lines of a McMillan A3 Sporter which has a slightly wider forearm area for resting on bags and such but comfortable for field carry and shooting. Or the McMillan Remington Hunter which has been a choice which fits me extremely well.

Triggers can get to be very personal so any of the top brands which are adjustable should work fine.

Enjoy the project!

Not necessarily made up my mind. Had an idea that in my mind sounded good. Just curious if there a certain trend that seems to work better than others. Ex, certain twist per bullet, magic powder bullet combo, barrel thengths that seem to be better than others. 24in barrel is perfect for case capacity and 28 is way overkill. Just curious if there was a trend that was better than others. I have never messed with a 6 creed before so before building one I was looking for ideas to make the perfect build.

My build is than likely going into a mdt chassis. I dont mind the rifle basix triggers. A little polishing before install and I enjoy them for $85. I have a PTG nut and lug sitting here. Still in the air on barrel. That's why I was asking what is working good for guys who have them. I appreciate your input.

I have a 28" barrel on a 6.5SLR. I can get 2950fps from a 140 HVLD with 43.0gr H4350. Pretty similar to a 6.5CM. But it is a big, heavy 15# rifle. Great for LR steel and sitting and glassing. Not real fun to carry in the mountains. Just finished load development for a 6.5CM w. 24" barrel. 42.5gr H4350 w. 143 ELD-X @ 2814fps. I think the velocity increase is more from barrel length than the .5gr difference in charge weight or 3gr bullet weight. Probably 25fps each per 1" and .5 gr. I feel the 6CM would have similar results.

Waiting for my 26" 1:7 twist for the heavies. Hornady case is fine but, I also ordered a bulk of Starline too. I'v never used Lap but, the Peterson is high quality and made in the US.

This is the 22 creed I just put together. Planning on making his big brother almost identical. Love the little creed and want another a little bigger. Took the doe at 390 and buck at 485. Like a little more gun to try the same with mule deer. The barrel is a little light so I'm going heavier with the 6mm. Same thing though I think. 28in fluted plus brake. Don't need either but I like the looks of them, and if im spending the money. A little extra to get exactly what I want is no big deal to me.

Here's what I'm thinking,
Savage stealth chassis,
28in 1-7.5 criterian varmint contour
Rifle basix trigger
Egw 20moa base
Mdt steel mag.

Planning on just necking down 6.5 hornady brass as I have a bunch.
100-105gr pills may try 110s
H4350, rl23 and rl26 to start. I've done great things with 4350 but lots seem to be having great success with rl26. Plan on it being another winter project. If anybody has pet loads they'd like to share that would be awesome,

I just got mine built.
Bighorn Origin action
Proof sendero lite 22" 1:8" .120FB
Jewell trigger, Hawkins Hybrid 25moa rings
Hs Precision sendero take off stock
HD Prec DBM
I'll thow my Ultra 5 on it when the stamp comes back. I also got a Henderson MLOK rail embedded in the forearm and a little 3" 1.5 dovetail that I can mount to the bottom so zi can shoot off my tripod.

I would caution against the Peterson brass. The capacity is very small.
