Just a buck

I stalked a couple of much nicer bucks, but couldn't make it happen with either of them. Then... This rascal showed up on my horizon with two does and presented me with a nice clean 255 yard shot. The 30-06 spoke, and did a fine job, punching the 165 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip through the buck, bringing him right down. That's the exit wound.

My apologies for the photo. It's just a quick snap from my cell phone. My buddy took a bunch of photos, and I'm sure they're nicer.

Rifle is a 30-06 Rem 700 CDL, pillar bedded, free floated, and with the trigger set at 3#
Scope is a 6x Leupold with the 36mm obj and "long range" hash marks
Ammo is handloaded 165 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip at 2970 fps via H4350

Good, solid rifle which has performed very well for me on several different big game species.

Best of luck to all you hunters!

Guy

Post up more pics when you can. That looks like a great goat!
IMO, nothing much better than pronghorn meat.
Congrats.

Not a showstopper of a buck, but I am happy. And yes, the meat has been delicious! Just made some excellent chili with some of the ground meat.

I do enjoy hunting antelope!

Yeah, but he is a looker. When I am hunting them, I look for deep hooks on top, good prongs and shape. He is a "purdy one"!

Good shooting.
I am really partial to those old suburbans.

Ya, that Suburban belongs to the rancher. We just use it during hunting season. It's pretty rough, but dang, after 30 years of hard work on the ranch, what wouldn't be?

Has the 4-speed manual with that granny low. What a beast! :)

I used to have a similar vintage Chevy Blazer, and have been thinking lately about getting another one of those old beasts, either pickup, Blazer or Suburban. They're dirt simple and work great. Good hunting rigs.

If you can't get it running with a coat hanger, duct tape, and starting fluid shoot it and leave it. They never stop. On the east coast they just rust and disapear.
