Scope recommendation??????

I am in the middle of building an ELR rifle. It will be used past 1500 yards and possibly up to 2500 yards

Anyway, I need a good scope. I currently own a NIB Burris XTR II 4x20x50mm scope. The scope looks good to me but.......

Will this do or do I definitely need an upgrade? If I do what do you recommend? Thanks

No harm in trying ur current scope out. Although I'd say it's not ideal. The 2000 dollar budget is kinda limiting. That disqualifies any March, Schmidt and bender, or Nightforce atacr. The Nightforce atacr in 35 power seems really popular. Depending on ur cartridge and scope base you will need a lot of internal adjustment. The nxs Nightforce 22 power scope has I believe 100 moa of internal adjustment and can be had in your price range. My 32 power nxs doesn't have that much internal adjustment but I prefer the 32 magnification over 22 magnification. Usually the higher the magnification the lower the internal adjustment.

I would set up a 4x8 piece of plywood painted white at 1500 then 2500 yards to see what your scope is capable of resolving. You may find that it's just fine for your needs without having to spend a ton more money. OTOH...

If it does not perform to your needs then the shopping begins. You should look at Nightforce Optics to get a feel for general pricing and quality. I started out using a Nightforce 8-32 (~$1,500) for just about anything from 1,000 yards and out. Costs start to escalate when you decide to go for all the gusto and shoot 2,500 to 3,500 yards. Now I have a March 5-40 at a little more than double the NF. The Genesis, as suggested above will run you a $5,700.00 if you can find one.

Standard scopes will usually need some help with addition elevation which will cost more money. Determine what you need at what distances before committing to one particular scope. Take some time a really look hard at the potential problems and necessay equipment. Don't rush into spending money.

You'll like the atacr. I don't have one but I've shot behind a couple and I liked them. Keep in mind you may have to use a Charlie Tarac to get the required adjustment you need to hit extreme long range targets. 2 or 3 of the top 5 King of 2 mile finalists used one. And the winner had his scope maxed out on elevation and had to use his reticle
To get to the max range so he would have possibly benifited from using one.

What cartridge are you going to be running?

The Vortex Gen11 Razor is a very good scope and used ones are going at a discount.It does weigh a whole lot so if weight is a problem look elsewhere

Stick with looking for a NF ATACR 7-35x56

I have some US Optics scopes and I like them!
Take a look at the B-25 with the GenII XR reticule.
They are pretty slick! But they exceed your price limit?
If you take care of it a good scope should last a long time.

The Burris would definitely work. I would see if you could upgrade to the 25x model for shooting that far. Great scope!
