Berger Elite Hunter's 6.5, 140gr

Loaded these at around 2605 in my Barrett Fieldcraft, Had complete pass through (120# Texas Whitetail) with no expansion, buck went down, got up running, stopped, shot another lung shot, blew big clot from first shot. He died then, still no expansion.

I guess now I'm scared these EH wont expand . I love the bullet, benchrest accuracy but cant trust them, maybe they are built for high shoulder (bone) shots.

Any other Hunting reports with these??? I want to use them but have gone to the ELDX and VLDH

I'm running them at 2850 in my 6.5 Creedmoor. Haven't used them on whitetail yet but I killed a 125lb +/- hog at 110 yards quartering to. Put it an inch behind the ear and obviously was DRT. Didn't think about the exit until we were butchering him. Bullet ran down the neck and blew up in the opposite shoulder. My first experience with the so called Berger mini grenades.

I was a little bummed I lost half of a shoulder but assuming that terminal performance is consistent I don't think I'll have to track too many animals.

Buzz,
Did you check the points to see that they were open on the 140 EH? A 0.040 drill should work and should be used for any of the Berger bullets that are used for hunting.

I took four animals in Africa with the 6.5 x 284 with 140 Grain Berger Elite Hunter bullets from 70 to 406 yards. No issues at all. All animals dropped within twenty yards of the shot. Shot a very nice warthog at 70 yards and put him right in the dirt. My Kudu was the farthest shot at 406 yards, hit him a little farther back than I would have liked but the bullet did its job and he only stumbled maybe 20 yards where the second shot put him down for good. So far so good as far as there performance!
