media case cleaner

my RCBS dry media cleaner bit the dust motor burned up,so thinking about a Frankfort Arsenal any thought on this? thanks Jim

How bout a FART? That's what I use (f.a.rotary.tumbler.)-- wet tumbler

im still using the walnut media now but it seems the walnuts shells are getting a little worn out, but if i was in your position id probably go with a wet tumbler too, they re getting cheaper

who wants to clean walnuts out of theirs flash holes anyway

A very convenient way to clean cases is the sonic cleaners. like the stainless pin tumblers, they clean the inside of the case as well as the outside. they are also very good for cleaning small parts using a different liquid.

I use the stainless pin cleaning for realy rough cases and the sonic cleaner for normal cleaning.
Here is the one I have.


I have found that the abrasive media leaves abrasive material in the case that MUST be remove if you don't want to shoot it down your barrel so I rarely use mine any more and the other two processes clean the primer pockets also.

First things first, I decap all my brass with my Mighty Armory Magnum decapping die, so the primer pockets get cleaned at the same time. Then I put them in the ultrasonic cleaner with the Hornady sonic brass solution, then I dry them in my Frankford Arsenal brass dryer, and then tumble-polish in an RCBS tumbler with #2 corn cob media and a small amount of Frankford brass polish.

Unless the brass had been sitting out in the weather for a long time, they typically turn out as good or better than new.

I have both a Frankford tumbler and a stainless media tumbler. I use the Frankford tumber 10x more than the stainless media tumbler. The reason for this is that I don't need my cases "that clean" and the burden or removing the pins and water from the cases is a PITA. I also have to do this outdoors as it's a mess.

I reserve the stainless tumbler for range pickup brass or brass that was of unknown history that's really dirty. It does a great job for this.

I have had the Frankfort Arsenal for about several years now and it works just fine still. I have not had to change out the media yet. I just treat it with the polish solution ever so often. I do have a stainless steel pin tumbler from Frankford and it cleans well (except for .50 BMG primer pockets). It does have some drawbacks such as decreasing the neck internal diameter (with .50 brass) at the top. And then there is the mess of cleaning it afterward. I also have an RCBS sonic cleaner as well. It cleans well enough. But many that I know do NOT advocate cleaning the inside neck of the cartridge, they say that that residue of carbon inside of the neck aids in maintaining consistent neck tension. I personally have not tried that method.
