Long range rifle takes a beating

Issue solved with the trigger, it was some plunger issue inside the trigger. It had nothing to do with inletting. !!!

Washington Whitetail season opened up.

I took a buck at 650 yards but not without issue. I was having some issues with the trigger. The wear I was talking about eventually made the trigger assembly touch the sides of the inletting. The trigger wouldn't engage, it would just stay locked in the firing position no matter how many times I racked the bolt.
I sanded the sides a little and we are good to go now.

Here is the buck!! Had him on camera this summer.

My gun tipped over and the scope has a nice scratch. I need to check my zero.
Oh well, if not for the occasional screw up we'd never appreciate when everything goes right.

I spoke to S&B Tech Support.
We talked about the rifle tipping over falling 5-7" and hitting the bell of the scope. Jerry thought that because of the leverage and weight of the rifle that it would only need to move 2000th of an inch to be off 2 moa. The scope most likely was not damaged but the movement was probably in the receiver/rail even though it's still torqued to spec. He asked what side the scope hit on, I said the right side, so he said my POI shift was right. Which was correct.

I actually bed my rails to the action and have even had some of them pinned on the "Biguns" mainly due to the shearing forces of recoil but it would prevent the same in the future for movements due to shock and vibration.

So maybe this winter I should , make the rail screws larger?? It's a NF Steel Base but the screws are pretty small.

Bedding and pinning would be easier and more effective.

Even the 8x40's have very little resistance to shearing force. A single pin the same diameter would be about as strong as three or four screws.

Put a pin and a screw of the same diameter in a vice. Strike each one with a hammer from the side and you'll see very quickly what I mean.

You'll bend the pin and you'll snap the screw.

I feel I can't trust my rifle to stay on zero now, disappointing when you have over 5k in a rifle.
 
Testing the scope and so far, everything seems fine.

On another note, a friend that used to shoot USPSA with me was invited to the Australian Invitational. When he took possession of the Pelican case containing his 38 Super race gun it was apparent that someone had opened the corner (padlock on other corner) to try to steal the pistol, or whatever they could get, out of the case. Thankfully they were unsuccessful.
 
I sent this scope in and just got it back. They said the erector lock ring tension something?? was not up to specs. They said with recoil it could throw your shots some. I will have to look at the report again to get the exact terminology used. I will try this scope again and hope it's back to normal.

I just tried a Leupold Vx 6hd for my new hunting rifle. This
scope on the first tracking test, was 1.89 inches high at 32 moa. It had a consistent over travel by about 4%. I called the company and they told me to ship it back. I am headed on a Utah Mule Deer Hunt and doubt I will ship it back because it's been very consistent. I shot two coyotes yesterday with it at 560 yards.
