Sierra Gamechanger bullets.

My buddy's kid took a big whitetail doe with my 6.5x55 two weeks ago. During the Wisconsin youth deer hunt. Deer was 310 yards away and was a instant bang flop. Shot was high shoulder and meat damage was minimal. Bullet did not exit. It was lodged between the offside shoulder and hide. We did have jacket core separation. But the core was right next to the jacket.

Long before plastic tipped bullets, I called and asked the tech at Hornady about their spire point bullets. My question was if the lead tips are bent or pushed off of center would that effect the flight of the bullet. They said the lead tip melted shortly after being fired and not a problem. Lead melts at around 600 degs. I took one of their heat shield tips and put it in a pan and heated it on the stove on low heat. The temp. came up slowly checking it with a heat gun, at 400 degs. the tip became soft and started to melt. Total time was maybe 3mins. start until it melted. That's 200 degs. less then the melting point of lead. Just raises more questions for me. Also on their you tube video they show the tip temp. over 700 degs.?

It can be proven or disproven by degrading BC. I personally had a few ELDs our to 1200 yards, with one to 1500 yards. The BC was averaged across all three Mach speeds and then tweaked slightly to a individual rifle. If the tip was melting, I think I would see a major decrease in BC and performance. Not saying they don't melt, but the BC is holding true out to 1500 yards.

No, I've messed with it. It seems legit, but out of habit I always go to shooter. Lol
I ran the 4Dof on a load and then ran the same load on shooter. Came out the 4Dof was something like 2" less drop and a little or 1" drift at 1000 yds. I thought that it was a lot of extra data entered for the results I got. To be honest with you I am not a good enough shot to notice 2" difference at 1000 yds.

Ha yea me either. Lol
4DOF seems to be very accurate. But like you said, shooter is pretty accurate too. I have used shooter for so long, that I know it well. I can navigate it quickly and it always works.

THIS POST IS ABOUT GAMECHANGER BULLETS. not the melting point of tips on ELD-M bullets. Start a private conversation if you guys want to get off topic. This thread was actually on topic pretty well until the last few pages. And just so I add something productive, while I'm interupting, the 7mm 165gr Gamechangers seam to be very consistant in my buddies rifle. (Not much info but at least it's on topic)

I dont work for facebook, but when people click on a forum titled "gamechanger" I don't think they wanted to hear about eldms and which calculator works the best, as there are other forums that address that specific topic. But I don't want to turn this into an argument and muddy up this forum anymore. So message me with any further questions, thanks.
