Woodleigh in .300 WIN MAG

Has anyone had any experience using Woodleigh's #65D .300 WIN MAG 180GR PP SN bullets? Any good loads you're willing to share? I would be running them through a Model 70 SuperGrade mainly for deer and hogs out to 400 yards. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have used many on deer here in Australia.
I have 2 loads to share.
Firstly, in either Norma, Rem or Win brass, 75gr of RE22 or 81gr of RE25 with WLRM primers in the Rem/Win brass or Fed215 in the Norma.
In my 26" barreled rifles, I get around 3160fps with RE25 and 3080fps with RE22.

As a side note, recently the profile of the nose on these bullets were changed, they have a sleeker and longer ogive with a slightly better BC.
I had a difference of 1" less drop at 300mtrs with the new pill design.

Thanks Mate, where in Aus do you call home? I'm in Queensland's red deer country. I've seen Woodleighs used on buff and performed really well so was thinking about giving them a run through the .300 on deer.

I am back in Melbourne, having left the sunshine coast due to a work injury, didn't like the weather anyway....lol.

Those 180gr pills for the 300 magnums perform really well up close, funny thing with them is they rarely exit on broadside hits on sambar, whereas the 225gr .338" pills have never stayed in for me.
Expect a perfect 4 petal mushroom, every one has looked the same for me.

You've gone from "Beautiful one day, perfect the next" to "four seasons in one day"..
I'll grab a couple hundred of those Woodleighs and get a load going for the rut next year. I'm going to the NT again next July so depending how they go I will use them on donkeys, horses, pigs.

I worked 4 summers out of 5 years there, humidity while cutting trees is horrible, I loathed the heat and humidity, prefer the cold.
I worked in the dairy industry overlooking Thredbo, Hotham and Perisher, I think the cold suits me better...lol.

You won't go wrong with the Woodleighs on the animals you list.

Sorry, I was away for a long weekend.
300 Win Mag, 200 gr Woodleigh PP SN (#65E), 77.5 gr AR2217, 2,953 fps, ES 20,
Maddco barrel 28" long, Remington Sendero contour, fluted, 1-9" twist. Chamber cut with a PTG custom reamer with 0.3395" neck.

Thanks for that mate. I picked up two boxes on Friday. I have some AR2209 I was thinking about using.

I suspect you will find pressure faster with 2209 compared to 2217, especially with the long bearing surface of those big Woodleighs. They are great projectiles.

I wish they came in 230 gr.

I took your advice and used 2217. Finally had a chance today to do a ladder test using a lab radar. Found the sweet spot right around 2950, 77.5gn just as you said. Pushed a couple over 3000 but they were starting to show signs of pressure. Thanks for your help.

Sorry, typo in that. Should've been 76.4gn to get 2950fps. 77.5gn was 3012fps but showed pressure.

Nice work JGW. That should be plenty fast enough with that weight projectile, a deer won't know what hit it.
I'm just back from a run up to the top of the Bris Valley, picked up a yearling hind for meat with my 260. Cracking afternoon.
