Rifle Classifieds Advertised Accuracy

I'm not trying to come down on anyone specific but curious what others thoughts are on all the claims in various classified ads. Been looking at classifieds (LRH and others) a lot lately, mostly out of boredom. Also, because I was selling a rifle myself. I see quite a few ads that claim some level of accuracy, i.e. .3 moa or .5 moa. However, pictures aren't included and distance and number of shots fired into said group are not clarified.

Anyone else notice this or think pictures and relevant variables should be included to substantiate a claim if one is made?

Take it with a grain of salt. A true moa hunting rifle is a good one. .3 moa hunting rifles should be used in bench test comp. Lol

I like pictures, however most are usually the better groups shot and may not be a good representation of overall performance. I mean who would post crappy groups?

I would ask the seller what accuracy guarantee comes with the rifle?

I assume over 90% of group sizes posted without pictures online to be total bull.

So what do you say this group is then!! From a .280AI...? I' love to know if I'm looking at this right. Just under moa? -.280??

Pretty close to 3/4 moa.

I can not speak for others but when I say a rifle is a half moa rifle I mean it is half moa rifle. I would never guarantee it because I can not shoot the rifle for the new owner. I also think you are an idiot if you think that means in hurricane winds or from odd field positions. I rarely shoot from the bench anymore. I shoot prone with a bipod. Every rifle I have owned and done load development for in the past 10 years has been a half minute gun except one factory Savage would not keep the cold bore shot in the group and I disclosed that when I sold the barrel off the action. Pics of groups are worthless because most are cherry picked. You can tell when a guy says this gun shoots .331 or .229 or .401, etc. That means it did it once during load development most likely. That is why I say half moa when my rifles are usually much better.

That is a tough one since all of us can't shoot the same. My .5 maybe another's 1.0.

All my rifles shoot incredibly tight one shot groups ....I cant stand it when you ask what kind of accuracy and the guy posts a picture of 1 shot in the bullseye

I usually ask to see multiple targets, but people don't always tell the truth either so you take it all with a grain of salt

Pictures are always nice. We all want to see pictures of the item for sale. And who knows maybe it's a picture that was taken shortly after the item was purchased. And no indication of what the condition is at present. Same with groups. Who knows the actual distance the group was actually shot at. Then there are always the other factors, I'm not as good of a shot as others, my reloading technics aren't what they should be. Shooting technic is different, bipod,sand bags,lead sled? Quality of scope and ability to mount said scope? All kinds of differences. But with all that said I've found that most of the people on this forum pretty darn nice and willing to try and help. And the info they give you pretty reliable.

I don't pay any attention to group sizes unless I know the guy. And one added picture reminds me of the adage "even a blind old sow finds an acorn every once in a while". Most of the guys selling these awesome shooting rifles also say the rifle only has 1-300 shots down the tube. There is very little chance they even know how the gun shoots by then. Just my 0.02

This was a group during load development so I tagged it <1". I had better so

Measure it center to center at the largest point of the group.
