This thread has been dead for almost 15 years... That's a lot of time to research. I'd hope by now he's figured out who he wants to build his rifle.

morning, go to gunbroker, get an account started. Colt
sauer in 308 or 30 06. comes with colt mounts and bases.
these rifles r very accurate. standard HSM ammo well work
well. a shooter can see the workmanship in the colt sauer. I had one in the 70's, stupid sold for my first custom build.
first model Winchester 70 after the pre64 is a very good starter,
have one rebarreld to 250sav. a real shooter. the olde rem. 700
in the same loadings mentioned above r very good starter rifles.
wait on a custom build very young, u have plenty of time to
accumulate knowledge and parts for ur choice. justme gbot tum

Maybe he's still waiting for the smith to finish it. Saw where one guy waited 6 years!

Screw that! I won't even wait 6 months... My smith does them in a week or 2 turn-around from the day I drop off the parts...Maybe he's still waiting for the smith to finish it. Saw where one guy waited 6 years!
