300 RUM help

I worked up a load for my 300 RUM with the following components - Lone Peak Razor action, hardy CF sendero barrel (1-10 twist) and it shoots really well - but it's definitely a hot load:

210gr berger VLD
93.8gr of Retumbo
Norma Brass
Federal 215m primer
20 thousands off the lands

Have a very visible plunger mark on the brass and a slight extractor mark - but no stiff bolt.

The current posted data lists 92.0 gr as max from Berger for this load.

**My question is - how many grains should I back off and start to work back up to find the lower node?

I've seen some people recommend 1.5 grains, 1 grain etc - trying to short cut this so I don't burn too many rounds through it trying to find another good powder charge.

If you are wanting to find a lower node, I would just start backing down .5 gr. at a time until you hit another good spot.

That's a spicy charge! I use 89.5-90 grs of Retumbo with either Berger 210/ELDX 212 @3080 - 3120 fps range. In my "mostly stock" Rem 700 Stainless LRH. Not a barrel roasting speed but, it's plenty fast for my Colorado elevations.

Experiment lately with Reloder 26, so far so good, until this past Sunday, when the temps in the Denver area were 88-92 degrees and had pressure issues.

I don't load Bergers but I load 93 retumbo for 180 and 92 for 200 accubonds. Your load seems a little hot.

You should get more speed with Reloder 33 but it's a bit dirty & can build pressure over 84F from my experience, and N570 is awesome but I can't find any.

I'll start at 89.0 and work up to 92.5 to see what it likes

I'm in TX at 500 ft of elevation, so my speeds aren't near as impressive as some

Benchmark 30 inch barrel, 3170 fps.
10 twist
93.5 grs of Retumbo
Berger 210VLDH
Fed 215
Remington Brass
No pressure signs.
Both guns were chambered with the same reamer.

What bullet?

I have found Norma and Nosler brass to be quite soft in the head, leaving ejector marks when no other signs of pressure exist. In almost all of their brass, regardless of cartridge.

I push a 230 Hybrid seated long in my .300RUM with Nosler brass and 91.3gr Retumbo @ 3068. It is a hot load too, but it is strictly a long range hunting load, and shoots in the .2s. And flattens elk like a steamroller. I have a light load pushing a 210 over H1000 @ 2960 for banging steel and loaning out to family and friend's kids.
